More Faster. 1/4 Times and how to get there?

Ok so I know the truck isn't a racecar. I get it. I just wanna beat this GMC 1500 with a 4.8L. Long-bed. I've got a 05 SuperCrew with a 5.4. This guy can beat me by maybe half a truck. Hes got a cold air intake (whooptie-doo) and I've got a magnaflow and a tip (lol whooptie-doo). So hes getting a Hypertech programmer at some point as well. I need to put the smack down. I was planning on an xcal from MT, and I am interested in the Edge unit as well... it has some nifty little B.S. features that would be fun to play with.

What do you guys think? What kind of quarter mile times do these things run anyways? Stock and chipped? I have searched and seen a few but not many stock to after-mod comparisons. Thanks.

you should get an intake(get you the better air in/out w/ your exhaust), electric fans, U/D pullies, and maybe 4:10 gears along with the XCal2...
Then watch that GMC try to catch up

Don't get too excited. See that chevy 1500 in my gallery, I used to lose by a truck length, after all my current mods, I now lose by half a truck length. Talk about disappointing :\ The XCal2 didn't do much for me, but it did help, same went for the e-fans.

Good luck.

You need to upload your datalog files to Mike pronto. Im sure he would want (and expect) you to waste that Chevy with his tuning.

I wouldnt even admit losing to a Chevy.....

Dude If this thing cant beat that stupid chevy Im gonna cry. Its my friends third car he has been given... he was all-Ford till he was handed down this 99 single cab 1500 and he beat me. This must be resolved. Is the xCal going to do enough for me? I dont see a lot of postings that are not full of praise. And, does anyone have some times?

Rob, I gave up on my truck trying to be fast. Now I just revel in the fact that Chevy has a substandard POS truck. No matter what anyone else says.

The 2 differences between the Edge and Xcal2 are the Edge has the display, and the Xcal2 comes with custom tunes. The other functions are virtually identical between the two. If your only concern is making your truck faster, get the Xcal2. It will provide bigger gains out of the box.

Here's a couple of stock vs. tuned numbers for me.

Stock:
0-60 in 8.2
1/4 mile in 16.3 @ 84mph

93 octane perf. tune
0-60 in 7.1
1/4 mile in 15.5 @ 89mph

I sorta just gave up the other day on being quicker than his truck, so I had my tips bent out to the side (entire piping redone) and had a single chamber flowmaster put on instead of my Magnaflow. This thing is still not as loud as the chevy with the 2 chamber flows I can't beat, and I lost about a half second in my 0-60 after this exhaust. The 5.3L Vortec's are just loud engines, they sound incredible. I am thinking of putting my magnaflow 18" back on. I will review and post soundclips of my exhaust as well as pics when I get a new camera. My camera broke because it dropped in the mud, which is another story all in it's own. I was on the phone with Troyer's Tech support and they said the same thing, to send my datalogs to them so they can see whats going on.

I'm glad I'm not alone Gobra, everyone seems to throw excuses (weight, weather, etc) as to why I'm getting poor performance. I have huge flatspots in my pedal (if anyone knows what I mean by this). For instance, I raced a buddy in his lowered chevy, he had a 350 in it, single cab 2wd, we were at 40mph (I have NO power at 40-50mph because it won't downshift) and we punched it, he SMOKED me. He's stock. I should have been able to compete with him but that flat spot in my pedal killed me, it's embarrassing. He was mentioning it's a waste of gas to race him, blah blah blah.

I am guessing these times are from your xcal. I did three 0-60 tests the other day with my edge and ran 7.0, 6.9, then 6.8. I was very impressed with these runs from my 4x4Screw. I am definitely not bashing Troyer, just saying you can get great performance from the edge, with a little knowledge and tweaking, maybe better. I run flowmaster delta flow 40 SIDO, Volant CAI, and the Edge.

My best 1/4 mile time to date is 15.13et@96.7mph - that's with an XCal2, AF1 and a Magnaflow muffler (not a full cat-back)

Those times come from my Gtech, which uses an accelerometer to calculate the times, very accurately. You simply cannot compare numbers derived from 2 different devices.
