1.5 or 2" Autospring

First off I know there's a lot of posts about AS but this is driving me nuts. Searching didn't turn up much for what I'm looking for. I've had this truck about 4 1/2 months now and the rake never bothered me much until lately so it's time to bump up the front end. I'm not big on aftermarket wheels so I plan to keep my 17" XLT wheels. May go up to a 265/70 17 in the future but that's a ways off if my Gen's hold up. So with keeping the stock wheels and not going to a 33" am I better off with a 1.5 or 2" Autospring? The 2.5 seems like a bit too much wheel well for me, unless you fill up with some 33's or more. I originally thought the 1.5 would be best, but now I'm thinking the 2" may be better. Anyone done the 1.5 and feel like they should of went higher?

With a regular cab you should probably go with the 2". The rake is a little more severe on the regular cabs. I'd go with a 1.5" on my supercrew if I were getting one.

I went with a 1.5" AS on my supercab STX with a 5.5' bed. It gave me about 2 1/2" lift in the front. Now the rear is only 1/2" higher than the front. However, I noticed somewhere on the specs for these trucks (i believe it is in the owners manuel)that there is some variation in truck height depending on the characteristics of the truck. The Supercabs with the 5.5' bed had a little higher stance than those with the 6.5' bed. It must have something to do with the weight of the truck. Of course I am talking about 2wd trucks. I sure it also affects 4wd also.

I have the 2'' on my 05 screw and like it. Might change it out for a 3'' now. I hated the rake from day one and added the leveling kit one month after buying the truck.

Thanks guys. Drives me nuts how you don't really know the exact height you'll get until you actually install it. I got burned once dropping a car supposedly 1.5" that was actually 2" and a nightmare ever since. Anyhow, I need to measure again but I thought my front was 2.5" lower than the rear. Pretty sure I'll just go with the 2" and see what happens.

I measured from ground to highest point of trim on wheel well for front and back. Have a scab and the difference was 2 1/2". So, I went with the AS 2". - waiting on delivery now. I want the rear just slightly higher and thought all the pic's of the 2 1/2" installations I've seen made the front look higher.

Here is the problem with these things on knowing what the lift will be after installed: different models. The weight distribution really has the most to do with the increase in height after install. Reg cab to Screw is the range with variations in the middle. Kevin once said that they even put the same size spacer into the same models and noticed a different stance. He looked into this and found that the coils can vary a little in stiffness as per who provided coils to Ford during assembly day. I put a 1.5 inch spacer into my 05 FX4 Scab to see only a 1/2 inch difference in height (rear higher). That means that I gained almost 3 inches total from the stock height just from the 1.5 inch spacer. It is not an exact science, but they are still the easiest leveling kits to install.

I used the 2.5" Daystar, and have been very satisfied with the looks.

What about going to the Rancho shocks with the adjustable collar. I have been looking to raise my truck front as well (Fx4scab 51/2 bed) and have read all the posts I can, and I think I'll bite the bullet and spend the extra money on the Ranchos. I also notice now with 15000 miles the stock shocks aren't what they used to be. Does anyone think this would be a bad decision besides cost?

I've settled on getting the 2". Figure if it levels it too much or bulldogs it, I can add airbags or another block to the rear later on. My initial measurements of the rear being 2.5 higher was with 300lbs of sand in the rear which I forgot about, so empty it's prob closer to 3".

Papi, check out autospringcorp.com. They have a link to buy them off ebay. As far as install goes depends on how comfortable you are do that kind of work. I was going to do it myself, but a buddy of mine is going to do it after hours at his dealership.

Why would anyone waste money on getting a leveling kit and just adding 265s?

How is that a waste of money?

My guess is MOST people don't like to look like they are nose diving, not to mention how uncomfortable it makes driving.
