Anyone running 89 octane Edge performance tune (level 3??)

I Just got my Edge, and have to say I love it so far. Currently I a running level 2, 89 octane, and love the firmer shifts and quicker acceleration.

I know that the towing tune is designed to keep EGT temps down while towing heavy loads. Since I don't tow anything more than a few hundred pounds in the bed, I am considering using the performance tune instead, to see if the timing curve makes any difference between level 2 and level 3.

Is anyone running the performance tune with 89 octane. If so how is it compared to the level 2 tune.

I know, I could just use 93 octane, but really don't want to for the comparison. So don't bust my Ba!!s about that.

The higher octane gas will allow the Edge to bump the timing. You should still see great gains running 89 gas.

BTW the manual says if you are going to tow over 4000lb then don't use level 3.

I too would like to hear from those who understand the timing and other differences between a 'tow' tune and a 'performance' tune. What's cool about the Edge is that we can go into either level tune and change so many of the settings, but if all the settings are equal between level 2 and 3, (WOT fuel, shift points, etc), do you have two identical tunes? Or what does the performance tune have in it's core tune that would make it different than the tow?

I was running the performance tune but customized level 2 to match what I had on 3. I haven't determined if one is more to my liking than the other. I can't do 0-60 runs very easily where I live downtown. Need to get to the country and compare the two custom tunes I've developed. Until then, how about the rest of you?

Do you guys mind giving me some pointers on a custom tune. I currently have it set on the 3rd tune(got it last night) with the octane level at 88. The only things i have changed was wot shift points 1-2, 2-3 at 5400 and 3-4 at 4700, and wot fuel 1.7. I would really appreciate some imput that you guys have that have really messed with some numbers. (Live at 6,000 feet elevation and did 10.2 in 0-60 in first run last night)

You can "probably" run the stock edge 91 performance tune with 89 octane. Just listen for detonation. I run 94 octane edge settings with 93 octane gas. I may bump it to 95 edge settings. You are probably in the mountains/hills so i would be cautious with it at first.

I have 94 octane, shift firmness at 15 (need to up it), WOT fuel at 1.8, shifts at 5350 (exc 3-4), rev 5700, everything else is stock edge i think. Powerbrake to 1400 so i dont smoke the tires and...

Holy hell dude, that is fast! Are you at sea level or do you have any other mods?

remember, it is the Edge's timer so i dont know how accurate it is. The tire size has been adjusted (i have 18" 4x4 Lariat tires). I live at 450ft above sea level (Birmingham, AL area). I have the Shaker Air Box, no muffler and the Edge. That;s it. I did gain 3 tenths by powerbraking to 1400 instead of just punching it. I am VERY satisfied with the Edge and need to go to the track when it opens and compare the edge's timer to the track timer.

So with that time how would your truck do at say....1132 ft? I'm not sure exactly how altitude effects it. I know why it does, but not sure of the equation. I don't want to be dissapointed with a high number to find out that it's actually like 1.5 seconds at sea level (exaggeration of course).

This would give an approximation (i think). It will at least get you in the ballpark. There are other factors as well (temp, humidity, etc) .
It will be interesting to see what i run at the track though.

Today, I gave in and tried level 3. I had 87 octane in the tank, so I set the edge to 89. Gave it a shot for about a mile. It felt good, till I felt what I thought was a miss. Gave just enough gas so it would not downshift, then I'm almost positive it was pinging that I felt/heard. Immediately switched it back to level 2.
Anybody else have gas with ethanol in it. All of our 87 and most of our 89 gas station have 10% ethanol (corn) in it. I wonder how this can effect the edge programming. I heard it can affect other fuel related items.

Try 91 or higher octane with the Level 3 tunes.

The 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are at 15. Even at this level, the shifts arent as firm as id like. I think my 3-4 firmness is at 5, not sure though.
