Bad Shudder / Vibration on New '06
Bad Shudder / Vibration on New '06
Only have 300 miles on my new truck and absolutely love it minus a few cosmetic things that I'd like to change.
However - this morning I'm coming into work doing about 65 mph on the freeway and this horrible shudder or vibration starts. I mean it was really bad, the whole truck was shaking - you could hear the stuff I have in the arm rest storage vibrating around. Sort of like a really out of balance tire - but it came out of no where - one second fine, next second shaking like a dog shi!!ing razor blades. I put the trans into neutral and it didn't make a difference - still shaking.
I pulled off the road and when I slowed down it went away. I looked at all of my tires and they looked ok - but, maybe I was imagining it but the rear passenger side tire almost had a burnt smell to it, can't say for sure but I did check one of the other ones and it didn't smell like that.
I drove again and got back onto the freeway and now it was perfectly fine - at all speeds.
I do indeed have the Generals that everyone complains about, to be honest up to this point I think they have been fine - maybe they still are.
What do you guys think? Is this an issue with the tire or something worse? I'm going to call the dearlership this morning and talk to them.

Yes I have use the parking brake a couple of times but I don't use it on a regular basis.
WolvLion I searched on your username and found that post about the e-brake. How does that cause a shudder? Seems like you'd notice it when you first start to pull away?

Here's my quick story:
I work in Northville, and you know it's kinda hilly around here. Well I park my truck on sort of a steep incline. So I would engage my parking brake while I left my truck parked there.
After doing that one day, I left to go home and of course disengaged the parking brake before pulling off (I tugged at the release lever a few times just to make sure). After driving for say 4 miles (2 on the interstate) I started to get a viloent shudder like the tire was starting to deflate. So I pulled over and the rear driver's side wheel area smelled like burnt rubber. I drove off and it has not done it since (then again I've never used the parking brake since then).
So I took it to the Ford dealer, and was advised that the brake lines freeze (which I questioned), causing issues with disengagement. Thus do not use them when it is really cold out (which again doesn't make sense to me). So essentially I never got any real resolution, but hey I am all ears for anything you might find out especially considering that you will probably take it to a different dealership's service dept. (I took mine to Fairlane). On a side note I am still getting a slight vibration at highway speeds due to my tires.
Good luck and keep me in the loop.

That's weird. I had already driven for about 10 miles before it started. I get on 96 at Novi Rd and it didn't start until I was between Newburg and Farmington in Livonia.
My dearlership is Bill Brown in Livonia - I'll give them a call right now.
