Paint peeling off of rear end cover

Looking under my truck yesterday and noticed that the paint was peeling off of the rear end. My concern is that it is because the gears are getting very hot. Anyone else have the same situation?

Sounds like the diff cover on the axle. I think they use cheap paint.

It's just cheap paint. I wouldn't worry about it. An inside trick when going together with new ring and pinions I've heard is to spray the outside of the cover with rubberized undercoating, since it's so thin it can help transmit some gear whine throughout the housing.

Thanks for the input Quintin. It just looks like the diff is getting really hot and causing the paint to peel. Although the metal underneath is rusty and not new looking. It's like the diff was left out in the weather for awhile and then painted without good prep. I'll pick up some hi-temp paint tomorrow and repaint and see if it makes a difference.
