Resetting PCM

Hi guys just another quickie. A friend of mine is putting an exhaust on his F-150, I told him that he should disconnect his battery to reset the computer and connect it when he's done putting his other exhaust on. Is this the right thing to do. I've done it when I put mine on last week. Would the computer learn if you didn't disconnect the battery?

I don't think it'd make a difference worth noticing. On a highway drive, the PCM will readapt anyways.

Many claim reseting the PCM is needless/worthless because, eventually, any mod will be picked up by the PCM due to altered driving conditions/ air flow/ whatnot and be adjusted automatically.

I've always disconnected my battery after a "performance/engine" mod as it's the way I've been taught since back in the day.

I really don't know if it makes a difference or not but better safe now than sorry later.

Safe driving.

FWIW...the instructions that came with the magnaflow kit I ordered said,

"Disconnect the vehicles battery, it will allow the computer to reset itself with the new system, and prevent electrical accidents"
