How does an 4x4 150 fare as a full time work truck
How does an 4x4 150 fare as a full time work truck
As the title says,im looking for a good work truck. I had a 2000 f350 superduty diesel but it had gotten stolen last year. I loved that truck. I have about $20,000 for a new truck now. For $20k i can get a used f350sd but ive noticed i can get an almost brand new f150 4x4 for the same price. They look pretty beefy now,not what they used to be. Ill be putting a cap and ladder racks on,usually carry about 3 ladders(300lbs) and about another 700lbs in cargo at all times. Are the suspensions made tuff to handle or is the *** gonna be draggin on the floor. Also how do the brakes compare. I used to get 40,000 out of a set of pads on my SD. Basically i wanna know if its gonna last. I put about 35,000 miles on a truck in a year. Anyone here using one for work everyday?

the super duty's are better than the F-150, period. Considering the up sell to get into a F-250, or 350, a F-150 may be tempting.
I have a 04 F-150 RC 4x4 8ft I use full time as a work truck, My first investment was LT rated tires, most F-150 come with P rated tires.
the box on the F-250 is by far more user friendly even thow Ford went Gimacky with the higher sides, Behind the cab on the SD, the box area is totaly flat, on the F-150 thiers a lip 2 feet up, 4x8 sheets of dry wall, or playwood only fit in the lower 2 feet with the tail gate clossed.
Brakes suck on the F-150, Front brake pads lasted me abought 20,000 km or 15,000 miles, all four R. were turned ( under warenty )
Ground clearance is less than the F-250, and seat fabric is sub par ( XLT ) F-250 have more cab room.
with the 10 ply tires, my F-150 truck can handel 3/4 of a ton with no problems, the 5.4 has good power, mines is good on gas and I don't beat up the truck, but it's used as a truck.
Once you add the topper, ladder racks, and wind resistance facter, add a trailer, and the F-150 is limited, thease are not the hard core trucks they used to be, as the work facter is not in most F-150 owners agenda.
If your going to haul or tow a 1/2 ton of stuff, the F-150 is a good chioce.

Comming from a 350 you will hate the 150. I could never downgrade from a 3/4 ton+ to a 1/2 ton. The F-150 will take a beating though. Its my primary truck for doing cement. In the summer I usally have my bed full of anything and everything. Hell, I have hauled off cement with it once when our dump died, It was saggin that day
.
Its a tough truck, its no F-350. Take a look around though, a friend of mine just picked up a 2002 XLT crew cab duelly 4x4 with the 7.3L Diesel for $23,000 out the door with about 50,000 miles on it. Its a hell of a nice truck and the deal was insane.
