Just FYI to anyone considering getting these --> As F150Truck'in stated, these mirrors are -----W--I--D--E---! It is especially noticable when driving or parking in a parking lot, or when trying to squeeze into that small right-hand lane to turn right, when everyone else is going straight... But they are awesome at what they're designed for - towing!!!
I do wish they had designed them more like the Superduty mirrors, with the convex spotter on the bottom instead of on the side of the main mirror. They could have minimized how far they stick out when they're retracted.

Yes they are very nice for towing, a friend has them on his truck and I'm getting a 26 to 28 ft Travel Trailer in the spring, so I might as well put them on and get use to them....

its not hard to do and it hook into the solid brown wire at the light switch...all the rest is in the plug witch is the same as factory so it plug right in.....

And is it the the solid brown or brown with white line? Their directions said brown - lower and outboard side. Which is the brown with a line. The one above may have been brown but it was a little grayish. Damn - I probably tapped the wrong wire.

On my truck it was a solid brown wire at the light switch.....
I did'nt have the plug block on mt truck, just a good old rubber boot....
if the wire is small enough, I would think you could run it though a blank pin hole, but pinning it in the block would be best, for future service reasons....

That damn plug is a PIA. It's not as easy as just using a blank pin hole since on the male side (cab side) there is no where to run it. It is a plastic housing with the existing pins molded into it. So it will require somehow drilling through the plastic (assuming I can even do that from the inside since there are so many wires in that area. Possibly if I can pull that end out I could somehow route it around it but I haven't gotten that far yet.
I bought these mirrors about a year ago, but never did wire up the clearance lights, because of the same issue. That stupid 'plug' instead of a conventional wire loom grommet...
I too have considered running a wire through the plug, but I'm afraid that I'll accidently mess up another wire.
But I'm curious now that Ford officially sells these mirrors as accessories, what do the official FoMoCo instructions say on how to hook up the clearance lights? Like you said, the Schafenacker instructions are wrong for S'Crew's, but what about FoMoCo's? Are they too incorrect?
Anyway, if you do figure out a way to get a wire through the plug, please post the results here (so I can copy you)
Thanks...

BAMORRIS2 - I was wondering about how they must install them too. Wish I knew.
I emailed Schefenacker last week and although they haven't given me a way to do it yet I'll give them credit for at least answering my email - which I find most places don't do.
I asked them about the gauge of the wire for the lights - with the instructions saying 14 ga (for clearance lights that only draw 55 mA). They said thinner is fine and that they specify thicker gauge since it can be pull through connectors and such without worrying about breaking it. I used 18 ga but of course its not hooked up yet.
I searched the forums and found that sevaral people have drilled through to run wires through there. Although I may do that I have doubts that that's how a Ford tech would do it. I'll let you know what I figure out.
BTW - how stable are your mirrors? They feel like they are mounted very firm and stiff but I notice that on the driver side there is just a little bit of movement in the mirror when driving. Its not much but there is some where as the stock mirrors had no movement in them. I am assuming its due to the weight and how far they stick out. I like having those convex spotter mirrors even for everyday driving.

As far as running the wires, I too have thought about drilling thru the door, but I just can't bring myself to do it. There has to be a better way. I think I'll go ahead and email Schafenacker also. The more people that ask about it, the more inclined they should be to find a fix to it.
This is what they've told me so far:
"Thank you for your enquiry about Schefenacker’s Telescopic Trailer Tow (TTT) mirror.
The F150 is assembled at three different assembly plants. Two of the plants use the grommet at the door and the Dearborn Truck Plant uses a connector. Unfortunately, we have just become aware of this issue and are working on a solution. At this time, we suggest using a vacant pin location if available.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

While I appreciate the response - how could they of just become aware of it? It's been like that for a while. Not to mention that I'm sure that came up when Ford sourced them for the OEM tow mirrors.
Let me know if you hear anything back.

guys,
if I was dealing with the block and cann't get a wire though a blank pin hole, at that point I would look into gettin a male and female pin to add to the block... I would'nt drill a hole in the block as I have seen other do... this would open a big can of worms as far as warrenty....
check with Quintin to see if he can look up the part number for the pins in this block.....then order from local dealer
I had the rubber boot, no block... but there's no way I would drill it... you can kiss you warrenty good bye on any system running though that block...

Ok, so I sent an email to Schefenacker...
Here's their response...
Chrome covers on their way!!!

Anyway, at that time you said you weren’t aware of the problem. So I emailed you some pictures of what I was talking about. At that time, you guys didn’t have a solution to offer, other than drill separate holes through the door (which I won’t do). So I’m just checking back to see if there has been any progress made so far on getting the clearance lights operational. I know for a fact that several other individuals are in the same situation with the F150’s that came from the Dearborn plant. Thanks…

In short- I regret to advise that there is currently no solution to feed the clearance light wire through this door connector. Ford themselves have admitted as much and are advising their dealers that this feature cannot be installed on their trucks built at the Dearborn truck plant.
To minimise the inconvenience this has caused you, I would like to offer you a set of chrome or US flag theme covers for your mirrors. Schefenacker will ship these to you at no charge. If you would like to accept this offer please respond with a shipping address.
Once again, I thank you for the follow up email and apologise for our delay and inability to offer you a solution.
