You feel bad enough to buy me a new truck?

Once I get this fixed, if anything else big happens, I'm sellin the truck. Im thinking a GMC 3500 crew cab with a duramax next time.

Hmmm, are the cam phasers going to be the new, fashionable thing to worry about on these trucks?

I suppose so. It's very very seldom that they cause any problems to the engine. All they do is make noise at warm idle.

New? No. Perhaps fashionable though. Did you take a break from the forum for a few years or something? It just died down for a few months so we could talk about the steering wheel shake. That's pretty much quiet now so here we are again.

Like the saying goes, everything old is new again.

Beware of the Warrenty Refusal

Just to let you all know, my 05 FX4 got the cam phasor bug too. I posted a while back about it but figured I would let you all know the out come of it, here we go. Took the vehicle to the dealer that bought the Ford franchise from the original dealer for all my service work. They quoted me verbally 1200 bucks for the replacement (included both phasors). When I bought my truck I got the 6 yr loan and bought the 3 yr extended warranty. Thought I was buying a Ford Motor Co. warranty but turned out to be an after market company. When the dealer submitted the request to cover the warranty the company asked for proof of all oil changes. Now, this defect in the cam phasor has nothing what so ever to do with the oil changes and was a defect in the design of the original phasor. Any way, like most people I didn't have all my reciepts even though I kept a log. They demanded reciepts or they would refuse to cover it.

So, I called the warranty company myself. They refused to let me speak with the adjuster so I told them to cancel the remaining warranty and refund me the deferred amount. They said only the dealer I purchased the warranty from could do that. So I called the dealership and they told me the original dealer ship was still in operation just not for Ford and I called them.

I asked for the dealerships manager and told them I wanted to cancel the policy and he asked me to speak with his service manager and see if they could work something out. The refund would be about 800 bucks. The service manager asked me to get a written estimate from the other dealer so I called and had it faxed to me. The 1200 dollar verbal turned out to be 1600+ on paper. Imagine that.

I took this and my truck to the 2nd dealer and waited til noon the next day. They estimated around 1100 bucks and said they would call the warranty company and talk to them. At about 4 pm that day the service manager called me back and said that he got the warranty company to cover the costs minus my deductable (100 dollars). So, be careful. Warranty companies will try to railroad you. Remember to keep good service records and all receipts. It makes life less stressing. I must have lost another 1000 hairs over that week.

The warranty cost me about 1600 dollars when I bought the car. It covered $1050 on the cam phasor then a few months back a break caliper seized up and it covered $100 on that so I am only 450 from it earning its cost. Presently I have 52k miles on my truck and about 2 yrs left on the warranty.

I was only getting about 12-13 mpg before they replaced the phasors and after its been 13-15.
Good luck to all.

Regular oil changes are needed for the VCT system to operate properly.

The real lesson here is to make sure the extended warranty comes from Ford before signing the dotted line.
