Dissapointments.

I am looking at buying an 05-06 F150 Ext. Cab 4wd. But I am somewhat dissapointed that I cannot order one with a manual transmission. I've been on both ford.ca and ford.com to see if it is available.

It appears as though I can only order one with a 2wd Reg. cab, with the inline 6. The only other option is going to an f250, or an f350, which is an unethical decision.

The manual transmission is just a personal preference.

Another thing I'm wondering, is would the factory custom build me one with a manual tranny? I like the 5.4 engine. And I also know they've put 5 speeds behind their 4.6's. Personally I don't see why they aren't able to put one into it.

Yea, I really wanted a manual also. I really looked hard at the 250 with the six speed, but f150 just had everything else I wanted. I even considered getting an XL with the 4.2 to allow me to get the manual, but I wanted the V8 more. Forget about the factory building you a special one, they just don't do things like that. Its more than just hooking a trans up to a motor, it includes everything from hardware to software in the computer that takes years to develop. Plus, ford builds something like 900,000 of these things a year, one isn't going to do it. Next time I think I might do the 250 with the 6, autos just don't get me excited.

I think you are out of luck on that one.....it is not an option on the 5.4 in any trim and I doubt they will make one either since there is no such thing as a manual 04+ 5.4 F-150 and their are no parts available to put one in. I love manual tranny's too, and I think it would be pretty neat to have a little short throw and leather boot in that nice center console

Yeah, I kind of figure my options are slim.

Another possibility, which would be a pretty costly one, would be installing one of the Keisler Perfect Fit kits. That is if they have one available for the 04+ model.

They make these kits, to put either a 5 or 6 speed manual, into a previously automatic vehicle. Includes everything from the clutch pedal, hydraulic clutch, to the transmission, to even a new driveshaft. They are pretty cool kits actually.

But, that would be a costly route just to have a manual transmission.

GM will put a 5-speed behind the small V8 in 2wd 1/2 tons and Dodge puts a 6 speed behind the Hemi in some, including 4x4s. It would be interesting to see what percentage they sell with manual transmissions? If there was enough demand to justify the additional EPA certifications, it would take very little for Ford to engineer it.
