410 Gears in a Screw?

Hello all,

I am considering changing the gears in my differential. I have an 05 Screw 2WD with the 5.4L , 355 gears and stock tires. Is anyone running 410 gears in a similar truck. If so what kind of gas mileage are you getting. Also, what RPM range are you running a 60 mph in OD.

Thanks for the help

Why are you changing to higher gears? Running bigger tires? or what?

I would do it. In a heavy truck like that the 4.10s can only help you compared to your 3.55s. I don't do much in the way of highway driving so I went with 4.56s.

I don’t do much highway driving either and I want more torque at low speeds so I need to get the RPM's up. Now if you asked me why I want more low-end torque I would have to admit I’m addicted to off-the-line acceleration.

GO 4.56! I went with 4.10's in my truck. it is MUCh better, but I always want more.

If I could done it over I woulda got 4.56.

Gas isn't much worse going from 3.55 to 4.10....maybe 1mpg on highway.

I know another member will say this, but I'm gonna say it for him....

"Don't fear the gear"

Make a tuner and gears your primary mods.

I had my gears installed. The total parts/labor was $485. From what I understand it's $1200 for a 4x4.

Talking to another 2wd owner at work that runs 4.88's with his stock diameter truck. Said it was 2500 rpm at 60mph.

Well my first go-fast mod was a Roush supercharge, then I installed e-fans. But I plan to get a custom tune when I'm done adding parts.

What kind of differance can I expect with the gear change? When I get above 2500 RPM's I have all of the acceleration I can stand. I looking to improve the pick-up between 0 - 2500 RPM's. Will gears get me there?

Ugh.. yes. I would get that tune right about the same time you get the gears. The gears will throw your speedo WAY outa whack.

After that, I'd consider some headers... Even shorties will help.

With that charger, you got plenty of air coming in, now just let it out easier.

Supercharger, efans, gears, headers and exhuast.. That truck will be BLAZING!
