Considering Body Lift

Alright...around here most of you guys are against body lifts. But, i am really thinking about using a leveling kit with a 3inch body lift on top. Im on a tight budget but really want a lift. The body lifts i have seen look really good except for the hitch. So any of you guys with body lifts have any problems? Also how was the install? or did you pay someone to do it? thanks a lot.

I'd like to know as well.

Im just going to throw this out there. I remember seeing that silver FX4 with a suspension + body lift but he figured out a way to move his hitch up to his bumper like stock. I'd really love to know how he did it. . .

Nothing is wrong with a properly designed body lift, like the Performance Accessories kits.

I thought about a body lift but I don't have the tools or the know how to do it myself. I checked prices to have done for me and it wasn't but $400 less than a Rancho 4 inch suspension so that is what I am doing next month. Thumper has a Rancho so you may want to ask him how he likes it.

really? howd that pricing work out? i have seen the pa body lift for about $250 and i think labor would be anywhere from $300-500. Still not $1600 like the rancho. I know thump really likes his rancho and recommends it.

Can the body lift be done at home with some knowledge? Or is it considered a rough install?

I'm curious about this too.. I want the lift so I can fit 35"s.. but struggling to save for the fabtech 6" (plus rims, tires) and save for a new house at the same time.

That depends on how much knowledge you have. It's a pretty labor intensive process, but it is doable. You most likely will need 2 people, and a lot of free time.

hey all...heres some pics of dkm2's truck. It looks sick!! hope he doesnt mind me posting it. Hes got the leveling kit with the 3inch body lift. Notice how the hitch can be seen. thats the only downfall in my opinion. Also...when isee the kits on the internet they sell "gap guards" seperate. What exactly are these? he has one good looking truck!! thanks guys

the 4x4 shop I talked with told me $1200 installed on mine thats why I would go $1700 for asuspension lift. They talked like it was as hard as suspension lift don't see how but they weren't to interested in doing it for me, talked me out of it actually

Gap guards are made to cover up the gap in the wheel-well.

PS: Shops around here generally charge around $500 for labor.

Down here in Houston @ All Out Off Road the guys quoted me 950 for the entire package with everything done. I would go for a BL but I would really need to upgrade to 35's and some new rims. I know for myself with grad school tuition coming up this summer I won't be able to do it. For me i'll throw some aftermarket rims on my truck and keep rolling with my leveling kit.

A member at FTW installed his own body lift on his 04. He said it was much harder to install than the body lifts on the 97-03 F-150's.
