mud flaps are wrecking wheel flares

i put husky molded mud flaps on my fx4 and now they are pulling the factory wheel well flares away from the body. some are worse than others but the front drivers side is pulled away enough that i could fit a nickle between the flare and the body. i tried taking them off and adjusting them or just losening the screws but as soon as i put them back on, the flares pull away again. when i take them off the flare goes right back.
i put these on over a month ago and i was hoping they might just go back to normal on there own, but no such luck.
any suggestions

Try clamping the mud flap and flare to the wheel lip while installing the screw. Sounds like the screw is causing the parts to separate as the threads go in. Drilling out the holes in the flap or flare (just enough so that the threads go through without engaging the part) would probably do it, too.

This may sound dumb, but are you sure your salesman gave you the right flaps? I think there are different sets for trucks with and without the wheel lip moldings.
