E-fans made no difference

well my e-fans were installed 2 days ago [got them from troyer] and i was really hoping for some changes to my power but i got nada. After reading reviews and opinions i was geting pretty excited about them but when they were installed and i took it for a ride, i felt no diffrence what so ever. The only good part of these fans were that they made my engine bay look cleaner but as far as performance wise the $400 was a waste of money.

Well, fan clutches are pretty efficiant. You might get better gas mileage though. Both from not dragging the heavy blade around till the fluid thins, and from warming up sooner.
Good luck
Chris

19hp.....I doubt that. That stock fan doesn't take 19 freakin hp to spin. Run a tank through it and you will be glad you did it though. I got a nice .5-1mpg increase every tank since my install.

"Power gains from this kit run anywhere from a low of 14 HP to as much as 19 HP at the rear wheels"

It doesn't say anything about peak HP, it could be at any RPM.

Another thing you have to remember is that you can't just add up the claimed HP for all your bolt ons. Since your already running pulleys, you probably won't notice as much of a difference.

Remember all this little MODS are just pieces to the big puzzle. As mentioned a bit better on the petro Im sure and a wee bit easier on the engine. It's nice freeing up some room under the hood and will make it easier to get to your oil filter. I miss having a oil filter that is vertical to the oil pan. On and off up and down with no oil running down your frame all over the place. OK Im done and good luck.

Hell yeah it does. 19HP would be very noticiable. My first reaction is that you should call troyer and see if maybe something is not jiving.
If they claim 19hp you will ABSOLUTELY feel it if its there.....

this is why i dont like giving out HP gain numbers, they are meaningless, as its nearly impossible to achieve the same gains on different trucks. I have efans on mine (not troyer) and i did notice the engine idles smoother, spools up a little faster, and my mpg did go up about 10% on the highway. Now i didnt spend $400, i spend much less, so for me it was worth it. is it worth $400? thats for you to decide, im very happy with what the efans did for me, if i had a choice i would make it one of my very FIRST mods

Nothing against any one person on this site, but every time a new product comes out tons of people are raving at how great it is and how much of a difference it makes. I'll bet he did expect a very noticeable difference, because if you read the tons of comments on it, these products are the best things since sliced bread. Take my tuner for example, I read and read about it here for months before I got one for my truck and it was nothing like I expected. I think the $300 price tag is way over rated for what I got out of it. Now, don't get me wrong I like performance things for my truck too, and I am more than willing to research and get one if I think it's worth it, but if you listened to allot of people these items are the best thing on the planet and of course by the way these performance mods are talked about and built up people should expect a Huge difference. Unfortunately allot of us don't have a boat load of money to spend on this stuff so we rely on what the masses say about them, form an opinion and hope it's as good as people say. Then when someone disagrees with it, they are asked, "what did you expect?"..........just my .02

Curious, what tuner do you have, and what settings?

I've used two and both made remarkable changes in my trucks performance.

Exhaust made a little change. Intake made almost none. Or exactly what I was led to believe by the posts.

I think I have read every e-fan thread and in almost all of them the results reported were very minor on the performance side. A few people that did NOT have them said there would be major power gains, but all the posters that put them in said little power improvment.
Most reported improvement in gas mileage.
Or just the results you might expect.

People pay 400 bucks and then they think they get seat-of-the-pants gains when they take it for a ride. Your brain is fooling you into believing you didn't just waste all that money. It's simple rationalizing......

unless of course the stock fan had 50 lbs of lead at the ends..it didn't rob 19 hp

I wouldn't think going to electric fans would DRASTICALLY improve horsepower. Like someone said, it's all the little mods you do that add all up. If you want real horsepower than put a blower or turbo on your truck. I can tell you from playing around with a turbo V6 Buick Grand National for 8 years about how to achieve true horsepower from an engine. Unless you go into the motor for cams, heads, power adders, etc. don't expect HUGE gains and get your hopes up too high for simple little bolt on mods...they help but 19 horsepower on a 6500 lb or more truck is NOT gonne be noticeable in my book.

I have to disagree, sorta. Not in the real sense, as, no of course you won't get 19 extra ponies from the fans.

But to arrive at these numbers what you do is assume the fan is locked, that is the fluid clutch is not slipping, either because your engine is very cold, first few seconds, or quite hot. At that point your fan is drawing big horsepower.
Put a fan clutch eliminator on to replicate this. The fan, clutch locked, can easily draw 19 horsepower at, say, 5000 RPM.
If you suddenly switched to electric with a fully charged battery you would see 15-20 horsepower increase. Now at idle, or in normal acceleration with the clutch on the fan slipping, you would see maybe 2-3 horsepower. Way too little to notice.
So the ads are not lying, exactly, they are just taking a worst case scenario and reporting on that.
Very seldom is your clutch fan fully engaged. On a hot summer day, with the A/C on, you will probably get 5-10 extra ponies from the electrics, depending on your speed.
Not a bargain for 400 bucks.
Now if you gain .5-1.0 MPG that would have a pay off in about two-four years, thus justifying it.
If you spent half that, and drove 20k a year it would pay off in 18 months.
So there is a place for that, just be realistic in your expectations.

Even a blower does not transform a 6000lb truck into a sports car.
