Stuck Tow Truck Pulled Out By F150

Heh, yeah right. CHP wasn't having it. From the beginning:

Today is Christmas and some tow truck got stuck in a ditch, I pulled over and offered him some help, I ended up staying about 3 1/2 hours or so. I welcomed him in my truck and played some music, gave him some food to eat while he waited for the truck to come, I have a large spotlight we used to assess the damage, let him use my hoe I had in the back to dig out some mud behind the tires, and offered to try and pull his 12,000lb+ a$$ out. It was a flat bed dually 2wd international 4300, had a 20,000lb winch on the back, and I offered to be used as an anchor on the other side of the road. Well it was a busy road and the CHP ended up showing up and he wasn't having it so he called a tow truck. The first tow truck was exactly like his and couldn't pull him out, so they called a big rig tow truck, winched him right out. Anyways, the moral of the story is, my truck died playing music while waiting in between the tow trucks arrival (hours), my truck died and the guy jumped it for me, but my volume no longer works on my stereo, neither do the speakers. I can't raise or lower the volume, and the **** does work because it responds but doesn't go higher or lower. It's stuck at about 6 bars and I hear NOTHING. I have disconnected the battery and it still doesn't work. I have no idea what happened but do not want to ruin this 6 disc audiophile. This is the real question and if you guys can offer any help, I'd appreciate it.

Hope you all had a safe xmas.

Btw, I have tons of vids and pics, I will post some pics in a minute.

Sorry dude, you blew something when you got the jump. It's so risky now to jump newer vehicles. Make sure everything is off, except turn the heater on full blast to drain any surges. Best you can do..

The tow truck jumped you off? If so, that's a 24V (or more) electrical system...24V+ volt electrical system + 12V electrical system = Nawt too good. Or did they use a booster pack or something?

I decided to take a look at the 3 fuses I thought would be related to the stereo (sub power, radio on power, and radio aka #7,#31 & #38 I believe). I replaced one of them because we dropped it behind the fuse panel, so I replaced it (it was a 5w, and I believe it was #7), and it works now. I WAS so much happier. But that was shortlived, I went out mudding today and lowered my tailgate to see when I reverse, the tailgate came off its hinges and was being drug by the bed rug, would have been better if it had just fallen off because it rubbed scratches into several points on the tailgate, don't know what I'm going to do. Pulled up to some fisherman and he said, "is that right?"...I was like, "yeah, it's supposed to be like that"...he goes, "oh cool, never seen'em [tailgates] do that before"...I was like, well what the hell do you mean, they all go down. I go back and take a look and it's hanging on by the bedrug.

I was reversing out of a trail, got too hairy, with these giant tailgates you can't see a thing, someone can vouch for me on that one.

Thats too funny, I definitely should. I try not to abuse my truck, but you can't help USING it where I live.

Put a ty-wrap or hose clamp around the right tailgate hinge / trunnion. It will make it a lot hard for the tailgate to fall off or be stolen.

That's good advice. I put a hose clamp on mine a few months back after reading a post by Asinatra ( at least I think it was Asinatra ). About a week later I was leaving for work and noticed my Extang RT cover looked a bit loose but didn't pay much attention to it because I was running late. I got out of the truck at work and noticed the bed cover was unlocked. I looked more closely and noticed finger prints all over the top edge and bottom edge of the tail gate like somebody was trying to lift it out. I'm confident that .99 cent hose clamp saved me the price of replacing my tail gate.

Holy Rat-bastard Theives Batman!!!

I never considered this until now. However, I do remember seeing that the replacement cost of an OEM tailgate is absurd... I think I'll be clamping my tailgate on tonight!
