Recommendations for aftermarket brake upgrade?

With my 6" lift and 35's braking is still existant but it definitely took a toll. During a sudden stop in traffic it kinda scares you a bit. Wondering if there is any brake system out their that has good results w/ our trucks. There is a powerslot rotor and Hawk brake pad upgrade shown on the Moss web-site which seems pretty decent. Wondering if there's others ppl had good luck w/.

The most cost effective solution: Use your transmission.

Wouldn't that produce more wear and tear in the long run?

power slot rotors and hawk pads, i know of a cheaper place than moss, if you want to email me.

i use my transmission to slow me down a lot, and im lowered, i just take it out of overdrive, combined with the brakes, it slows you down faster with less brake pressure

Do you HAVE to use the Hawk pads with the Powerslot rotors?

probably because the compound used in the hawk pads are the same type that youre supposed to use with slotted rotors.

i would be it has more to do with hawk and powerslot helping each other out on sales, like hawk reccommends power slot rotors, etc. im sure you can use other pads, but if power slot says hawk, ill be using hawk

On the tranny braking, I have to go with all the transmission builders, engine builders and all major car makers, plus Road and Track, Car and Driver Magazines, etc. and point out that while dumping a gear in an MG while booming down a mountain side is fun, there is nothing in a brake system that costs a fraction as much as a transmission.

I have watched too many guys bend valves, burn clutches and bands in the transmission and in general screw things up by dumping gears.
Modern cars are NOT intended for engine braking.
Sure, controlling speed by choosing a lower gear on a grade makes sense, but using the transmission as part of normal braking is not intended by the folks that design them.

Ask them.

This is not your granddaddies truck.
Oversized rims and tires are already putting a killer load on the drive train.

If you are gonna jack the trucks up, and put super heavy tires on them, spend the money and upgrade the braking system. If you are in an accident, even a chain reaction on the freeway, you are going to be found at fault. The cops, the insurance adjusters and the attorneys know all about this stuff.

Jacking a truck up in the air is a choice, so before making that choice, consider the need for more braking. A lot more.

Not trying to be a Grinch, or Scrooge but do consider the repercussions.
Chris

Hi, how many miles were on your tranny when you rebuilt it? I recall the posts earlier this year. Did you do the job yourself or did you farm it out?

I know you drive your truck pretty darn hard (like your sig picture wasn't a clue!) and I'm curious about the longevity of the various bits and pieces in that kind of use.

If you take it out of OD, you've just shifted to 3rd. Every time the trans shifts there is incremental wear.

As mentioned above, brakes are cheaper to repair than trans

more options

I've been looking for upgraded brakes too. I found SSBC has a kit with calipers, rotors, and pads. About $2600.00. You can get rotors and just pads. Also you can get the calipers seperately for around $900.00 a set. I believe there is a set from Baer braking too. Calipers and rotors and pads too. You got to shop around for prices. If you get something, please drop a review on the site.
