Magnaflow Stainless Grade

Just installed Magnaflow 15821 SISO today and have to say I'm very pleased with the sound.
I have a question about the stainless though. My dad(who scraps a lot of metal) checked the whole exhaust with a magnet. The magnet stuck to all but the tip. Is the stainless a lower grade on the pipes and muffler? Is anyones starting to rust?

it is a lower grade, the piping will turn brown but will never rust.

My metalurgy classes are going to pay off finally. Usually magnets stick to the lower grades of stainless steels like ferritic and martensitic. (SP) You on the other hand have the most corrosive resistant stainless on the tip, austenitic. (SP) Which a magnet will NOT stick to. Pretty sure all the junk I just said is true becuase I paid attention that day, becuase I was interested in what my exhaust was made of also. Same applies to silverware. If a magnet will stick to your forks, knives, and spoons it's cheap. Likewise if it doesn't stick its higher quality stainless.

I am pretty sure it would be the same grade as factory SS(maybe even a lower grade). Which could rust, not to the extent of regular steel though.

I think the lower grade is so they can make clean bends in the pipe. Higher quality SS is just to brittle.

I see Borla's system is 100% T-304 stainless though. I think 304 is a higher grade.

304 is the most commonly used SS and the most readily available to, this is used for most aftermarket companies(unless otherwise specified). As far as I know, most if not all SS can be bent. The propper equipment is needed to do so, the best and most efficient would be a Mandrel bender. You can bend SS in a conventional bender (its not recommended) but the results are far from what would come out of a Mandrel bender.

I have my Maggie SIDO on for a few months.
After three weeks, the tips started to show heat
tarnishing.

Tried Mothers metal polish and it won't come off.
Sort of dissapointed in that.

Check out the pic (under mods) in my gallery.

Ouch that sucks. I purchased the 15827 which exits in front of the rear and it doesn't do that. It might be that the inner pipes come almost all the way out to the tip opening. So the tips don't really see the high temp exhaust gases.

The Magnaflow stainless systems are advertised by Magnaflow as all 304 Stainless. I have a MF 15834 SI/DO and do notice that the pipes are turning brown. The 304 stainless headers on my Vette don't do that. What's up?
