Putco Chrome Door Handles / Covers ?
Putco Chrome Door Handles / Covers ?
Hi All,
Thinking about adding a set of (4) Putco chrome door handles (or covers) to my all-black '05 FX4 SCrew. Anyone done that to a black truck and have photos?
Couple of questions:
The ABS Covers are obviously easier to install and about $ 70 for a set, vs. the solid billet replacements which require door panel removal and are 5x that price.
1) Has anyone installed the covers and are satisfied with them?
2) If you've installed the billet replacements, appx. what was the time spent per door doing the job?
Opinions on either?
Thanks guys.

I went with the TFP not Putco because they were the only ones that matched my two door, drivers keypad, passenger keylock combo. They look pretty good on silver, I think they would look nice on your black. The chrome matches the chrome on my Lariat wheels, and the chrome on my Triton nameplate.
I also added the chrome gas cap cover and I think it matches well.
There are some stainless steel ones that you stick on, rather than the plastic ones on E-bay. Price is just a fraction higher than the plastic. If they had made my combination I would have bought them.

They were on my truck when I bought it last year. Pics in gallery.

How do you think they would look on a dark shadow gray. I've been wanting to do something with the hnadles, but I don't know if that will be too much chrome. Thought about the LT handles, but still don't know if thats the direction to go. Any opinions?

I have the Putco's on my Green KR. Look good. They've been on for about one year. No problems.
Also, my passenger door doesn't have a key hole in it, so why have one on the cover??
Wifes 04 Thunderbird only has one key hole. That's on the drivers door. The trunk doesn't have a key hole either.
Don't really see a need for it either. The remote is fine.

Assuming that it does have keyhole on both sides, what do you guys suggest about the chrome cover. You think I could drill a hole in it w/o messing it up, maybe use a dremmel or something? Would it be too much of a danger to the plastic cover, maybe risk it splitting?

Which is lousy.
My truck came with both keyholes and I added a keypad. So finding the match was fairly hard.
As to cutting a hole... I don't think it would look right.
You could do without the keyhole on the passenger side if you wanted, but if it is there, I want the option. Gives me three ways to open the doors from the outside, but what the heck.

same here, I'd like to have the keyhole over there and I think I do...I'm going now to look. My '04 was made in sept. '04. I wasn't ever aware that they made any that didn't have keyholes on the passenger side.
