Lariat owners - MPG readout
I've just topped 3K on my 2005 Screw Lariat 4X4 purchased this past September .
I reset the MPG readout when I got it home with 13miles on the clock.
Ever since, it has NOT reached over 12.6MPG . . . . regardless of my driving habits.
Over 80% of my driving is highway. I have a 25mile commute to work and I take the truck in every now 'n then and will do some weekend driving when I'm in the mood to get my fat *** up in the drivers seat (this thing's jacked up compared to my '03 Sonoma I drive every day). It's a secondary vehicle, in other words.
Does 12.6 MPG with just over 3K on the clock, and predominantly highway driving, sound about right? I'm thinking I should be getting figures that are something a LOT more economical than this. Correct? Should I take the truck into Ford and tell 'em something's up? A reflash perhaps? Power is no problem. It drives like a dream and I rarely, if ever, give it WOT. Only engine mod, thus far, is a K&N airfilter in the factory location . . . everything else is bone stock.
What's up with that? Or am I expecting too much?
I dunno so I'm asking the board for its assistance . . . . any advice/assistance would be greatly appreciated.
PS: What MPG figures are the rest of you getting? Under what driving conditions?

Mine read 12.8 mpg when I put the Access rollup bed cover and K&N air filter in. Now it reads 14.5 ... still not stellar but something is better than nothing being that I needed those accessories anyway.

Well hanging a brush guard out in the airstream is certainly going to create drag, which will kill your highway mileage.
That said, the new ford of mine certainly doesn't get the mileage that the 04 suburban it replaced did. I'm hoping as it breaks in it will get better but when the burb was brand new it got better than this...so...
Still, there are several things about the ford that I like better....just looks like I'll be eating more fuel cost.

I've noted my MPGs have dropped around 1.2 MPG recently.... I believe that's due to winter formulated gasoline though.
I'm averaging right at 14.2 to 14.5 with a 24.25 mile, one-way, trip into the office via 90% interstate. Mind you though, much of that interstate experience is stop and go like city traffic.

I average 17-18 mpg on the display, but my morning commute is about 20 miles, mostly highway. I've also got a (relatively) fuel thrifty truck, a 4x2 Supercab with 3.55 gears.

I just, really, thought I'd be getting in the 14-16 MPG range with the type of driving I do. I can understand if it was city; but highway? Anyway .. .. ..
I'll be taking it on a trip to Nth Carolina (from Virginia) this coming weekend so I'll definitly reset the MPG and see how I go.
Thanks people.

I keep the tach under 2 k and I usually get 14.5-15.2 city and when on the highway without my bike in the bed I get 18.5-19.1

What speed do you drive on the highway? I have found that I get the best mileage when I keep it around 70. On long freeway trips 18+ is not uncommon. The best I have averaged was 20.2, between Little Rock and Dallas. I drove around 70 the entire trip and was easy on the loud pedal when I was accelerating. This week I drove from Little Rock to Lafayette La. and averaged 16. The trip was mostly on back roads and time was more important than gas so I was more aggressive with my speed and passing. This is with a bone stock KR Supercrew with a 3.73, and 18" LT tires. I have one on the heaviest trucks to leave Ford so I would expect my mileage to be the lower than most, if they were equally driven.
I would recommend checking your tire pressure and getting a reflash if you have an early build truck. Both of these helped my mileage significantly.

I would fear a blowout if you keep the tires higher than recommended.
