5.4 3V spark plugs revisited

I heard through the grapevine today that apparently engineering's temporary fix for possible plugs breaking off in the head is a generous soaking in Kroil penetrating oil and working the plugs back and forth until they give up. If the plugs are already broken, a couple guys mentioned something about rigging up a threaded insert on a slide hammer to ****** out the remains of the plug without having to pull the heads. Don't shoot the messenger, that's just what I heard. I'm still asking around as to what (if any) the long term fix may be.
