Here we go.... truck in the shop for known gremlins finally

I decided I would wait until the first service to bring up the known problems I have with my 05 4x4. I finally hit the 3k mark (had the truck since August) and had them pick it up yesterday morning.

I've been experiencing the "vibe" between 50 and 60 mph, the on again off again rearend clunk, the dieseling sound at idle after warmup, had a serious miss in 11* temps the other morning that sounded like every connecting rod in the motor was letting loose (cleared right up after about 3 seconds.. longest 3 seconds of my life) and the rear slider leaked at the seal after running through the carwash last week to get the salt dust off.

I stopped in tonight to check on it since I hadn't heard anything.

They balanced the tires, then road force balanced the tires.. but didn't clear up the vibration. Tomorrow they start in on the driveline with the driveshaft.

No word yet on the dieseling.. they want to do a warm up comparison to another 5.4 at idle...

They told me ever so kindly that they were going to have my truck "for a while".... which tells me they know exactly what they are in for.

Said they wanted it to be right when I got it back... "so it might take a while".

I guess I'll go and pick up another one to drive over the holidays since I start my annual 2 week duck hunting expedition tomorrow. Just about bet I won't get one comparible to the one they're working on though.

Hopefully they'll be true to their word and have it right when I get it back.

Anyone actually had any of these known issues fixed yet?

No way I would call this truck a lemon. The things that are wrong with it seem more of a nuisance than anything and from reading on this board, not that uncommon since '04. The miss has me concerned, but that could have been water passing through the system considering the circumstances and that I had just filled it with gas about 15 miles before it happened. The clunk seems to have pretty much worked itself out in the first 3k miles. It hasn't done it in a while now and has done it probably less than a dozen times total.

I bought the truck at Parker Ford in Murray, KY but they had to go to Charlotte, NC to get it. They have bent over backwards for me with everything involving this truck and an Escape we bought for my wife. I have no doubt they'll do everything in their power to make it right before I get it back. That's why they said they may have it a while. They definitely aren't going to make a change and then give it back to me unless it's fixed like some of the reports I've seen on here.

I just hope to get something comparible to drive until I do get it back. Guess we'll see here in a bit.

I know some folks have had keyphasers and timing adjusters replaced to fix the diesel noise, but has anybody actually had the "vibe" fixed yet?

I have a screw xlt 05 and had the vibe but it was fixed with a wheel balance and wheels retorqued. The clunk has a tsb and the slip yoke needs to be greased but the drive shaft has to come out for this to happen and that was also fixed with no problems. The only thing I have a problem with is the lack of power and I have the latest update. All my problems and oil change were done in 4 hrs.

Just got the call from the dealership, they've tracked down the vibe and have a transmission on order.

Bringing the truck back to drive until it comes in. They want to wait on messing with the motor until they do the swap and advise that the clunk will be gone (they did manage to make it clunk) once they swap the tranny.

What I thought was the rear slider leak actually turned out to be the dreaded third brake light. Glad it doesn't sit out in the weather 24/7 or I would have found that out the hard way I imagine.

Good to hear they are working with you on the vibe problem. Intresting that they think the tranny is causing the vibe.

So what caused the "dieseling" noise?

They haven't dug into that yet, but I'm assuming it's either a keyphaser issue or the timing adjuster. Seems to be the two things I've heard of on here.

They want to solve one issue at a time instead of tearing into two or three at once. I can understand that I suppose.

As long as they're going to provide me a truck to drive, I have no problem with it.

My clunk came back, after they had fixed it. Im going to see if they'll just replace the whole driveshaft this time. We'll see how that goes.
