Keypad

I installed a new door handle with keypad on my XLT. The wiring harness was already in the door, and the new handle pluged in. I just took it to the dealership to see if they could activate it. They tried and said that my truck did not have the correct modual programing for key code. I guess now I have a cool looking door handle that won't work. Does this sound right, or is the dealership wrong?

I suspect the dealership just did not have a clue how to set it. On my truck there was never any possibility of 'turning it on' as my truck is an STX, no module, no harness, nothing.
I just installed an earlier analog module under the dash and did my own wiring, so mine is not 'purely decorative'. In your case you should find a more knowledgeable technician.

Will check with another dealership. And they charged me $21 to hook it up to the computer.

After someone else turns it on, I would stop by with the recept and get my money back...
Best of luck with it.

So the problem is that they have to reprogram the module? Just want to be clear when I go to another dealership.

What my grandfather did when I put a set of LT handles on his truck is go to the dealer and tell them he wanted it programmed for a keypad, and they ended up taking the coding out of a truck with the keypad and loading it into his. Now to me, this makes no sense, you should be able to modify the original coding to match whatever options/accessories you have.......but I guess Ford does things a little differently than we do at work.

I am intrested in this mod for my truck. Where did you get the handle with keypad and was it easy to install? Keep us informed on your progress and how you get it programed. Good luck
