Don't know how well they perform but I just saw in a magazine that AEM Brute Force has a new oil free design. I know with oil fitlers like K&N there are problems with the MAS getting too dirty due to excess oil. Can anyone shed light on that?

I have a K&N 77 Series Perfomance Intake. It's nice and shiny just like the AF1. I've drivin over 2.5K miles so far and no CEL's.
Look into this product. I like it. I got mine for $290 shipped. Very easy to install. 25 min.
Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

In this forum, you'll get so many different answers that you may as well draw one out of a hat I've read alot of good things about the AF1 and that the CEL was only a problem on some 2004's (don't quote me on that though)...I have the Airaid intake and have had absolutely no trouble with it. I have had two K&N intakes on two other trucks with no problems also.

Airaid or the K&N would be my choices.

Oil free design? No thanks.

Me personally i liked the aem brute force. I am more of a fan of metal under the hood over plastic, also when i purchased it, it was the only intake that had dyno numbers up on their website. I still love it!

No problems with the K&N I figured you can't go wrong with K&N since they have quite a reputation and have been around forever. My bro had a K&N intake on his ranger with no problems of any kind.
I wouldn't expect a big noticable gain in HP though( It is slightly better)
and at WOT it is a bit loud and sometimes going up a hill also.
Overall I do like it. It looks good and the fit/finish is very good . Just don't expect to see a big performance difference no matter what brand you go with and you'll be fine.

I opted for the Airaid....and so far so good. I put 6,000 miles on the truck and no CEL yet. Love the sound and look. Seems like a very quality piece. I personally like the plastic over the metal... metal holds more heat then the plastic.

Actually the AF1 is stainless which transfers the least amount of heat of all of them. I do have a AF1 but there are issues with the dreaded CELS (and I have had them). I can clear DTC with the Xcal2 so I really don't care. I wanted the best performance I could get for my truck. I have even had one after over 5000 miles of non issues. One clarification I have one of the very early F150's (Oct 2003), and there are a lot of later builds with no problems with the AF1. I noticed yours was a 2004 and wasn't sure of the build date.

Personally if you want the best performance and stability I would look into the Airraid intake. There numbers are very close to the AF1 and I have not heard of any complaints on this board by anyone.

I like the look and sound of my AIRAID. It seems to be a quality product.

Dude, go with an Airaid....you wont be dissapointed. As my buddy said, forget the stupid bling factor and go with what works. I cant help but think those shiny METAL tubes would get hot, thus making the air its sucking in warmer. As i understand it, its cold air that is the key.

I've never had a problem with my AF-1, but some here haven't been so lucky.
