Some of my friends who invloced some car races build motor told me that its not good idea to let motor running at idle for longer than 10-15 mins in COLD season...
Just let it running at least 5-10 min w/ heat on inside then drive off it ll be fine and much quick warm up inside cab and motor.

I think that Ford does not offer the block heater standard in the "northern" states any more. That may have changed with the model in '04. The PSDs are the only ones that come with them standard. I think that they still do in Canada, though.

Thumbs up

No block heater, waste of money for the mirror defrost, rear window defrost, but need a really good air conditioner!

It shouldn't matter what size radiator or how effecient the cooling system is.....if the thermostat is working properly, the coolant *should* reach very close to operating temp before it opens and lets any coolant flow through the radiator (besides what little gets by the weep hole that is in them). It should continue to cycle it through the heater core and through the block until it reaches what it is rated for (195*F on our trucks) for full open. And if you don't run the heater until the truck is warm, it will also warm up faster. At idle when it is really cold outside, the engine doesn't make a lot of heat, and a lot of the heat it makes is sucked right back out through the heater core if you have it on full blast. I know on some of the newer benz's, the heater valves don't even open until the coolant temp sensor sees some heat there.

Does anyone know what temperature thermostat comes stock in an '05 5.4 Triton? Has anyone changed one out? Difficult? I would prefer this thing ran just a little cooler. At operating temperature my guage sets just a bit below the half way mark. I tow a boat, plus here in Okie land it rarely gets below 25 degrees. Any thought on why not to lower the thermostat temp to say one that runs 180 degrees?

Thanks to all for any input.

I think it's a 190 but not sure. Will look at the factory manual when I get home tonight. I believe that changing it to a lower temp will set off all kinds of computer contolled emissions bells and whistles. Also your fuel management systems would be affected. This is just my uneducated guess.
