Ebay leather Best Offer bid

I decided to pull the trigger today on the leather seat covers. I made a Best Offer bid of $85 expecting them to decline it, but 5 minutes later I had an email saying they accepted. Yipeee

Of course I wish now that I had offered lower, just to find out what their bottom dollar is. Still, one heck of a deal.

The bad part now is that I am going to have to let my wife wrap these up, wait until Christmas morning, and look surprised in front of my girls when I rip open the box.

I got mine for 65.00 plus the 40 shipping. But that was before it went nuts in this forum...
Now 85 is a sweet price.

If you search on this forum for "e-bay seatcover" Or "leather e-bay" you will find six detailed write-ups of the whole shebang. I did one, and five others have also, mine was the third I think.
These are factory seat covers, so they replace your stock seat covers.
Easy job on a Screw, pretty easy on a regular cab, bit tougher on a Scab.

I was thinkng about picking up a set for a spare in case something happens to my stock ones.

I have a question though, are they black are dark charcoal? Are they FX4 black? The seller don't offer any help. Thanks.

Not a bad idea for the price if you have the money and/or the storage space.
As for the color, I though they were black. I have a question for someone though. Are these same leathers offered in a FX4. All the ones I've seen have the leather trimmed ones, with the vinyl square in the middle. They also have the white stiching on all the seams.

sorry, I was talking in the middle of each seating area. The ones off ebay are out of a lariat, so they don't have the white stiching or the NOTICEABLE vinyl in the mid section.
Try to find some pics with peoples FX4's with stock leather, youll see what I'm talking about. The seating area on these has a much thicker, rougher, plastic type FEEL and look to them.
I like the ebay/ lariat leather much more..

The leather seat covers being sold on ebay are takeoffs from the lariats. They are black in color not dark charcoal, not gray. They have black stitching not white. They like all "leather" seats these days are leather where your body makes contact and vinyl everywhere else.

I bought a set of these and they turned out great. I had to modify the rear seats (both backrest and bottoms) to fit in my SCab. Check my gallery and other post to read up on this modification.

Ox, you are right in everthing but the name.
Ford calls this color 'dark charcoal'. I bought some actual Ford fabric to cover the center seat, nice match for the stock stuff and it is called dark charcoal, not black.
Of course it is black, but it is called dark charcoal.

I stand corrected.

I thought they might call it ebony or something but I wasn't 100% sure.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Cheers,

I live just outside of HOusTon Texas and you can't spell Houston without HOT. Anyways, I just have really dark window tint that prevents the heat from getting in (mostly).

I haven't had my leather seats in long enough to test them in the summer heat but the leather must be better that those crappy cloth when it comes to the stains. I'll just remember that when my a$$ is sizzling.

Just keep it moisturized with some good leather cream. Don't want to overdue it though. I wonder the same thing right now for me. Its -6 degrees right now. Its pretty stiff when you first jump on it.

Love the Houston HOT thing.

CrAz3D, I live where it is VERY hot. the Mojave Desert, about 70 miles from Death Valley.
Black leather is not as big a thing as some would think, but the big secret is using a sun shade. One of the silver cloth ones that fold up into a disk and fit in the pocket on the back of the seat (pocket comes with the leather) will cure all the parking lot heat woes.

It will also save enough in gas to pay for itself many times over if you use A/C as the interior will not be anywhere near as hot when start to drive it.

Tinting the side windows will lower the cab temps a LOT.

Or you can put vent visors on, which helps two ways. A little less sun coming in, and you can lower your windows an inch when you park with out dirt/rain, people, getting into your interior. That also lowers the interior temps

I drove a black on black car for 5 years, and with heavy tinting and using a sun shade I was never uncomfortable sitting on the black leather.

Chris, what did you ask for when calling Ford for the leather? Just the Dark Charcoal leather material?
Didn't buy it from Ford, they won't sell it to you. A fabric shop got it for me, they had to buy a giant roll. That was OK because they use it on other cars all the time.
Go to any local upholstry shop and they will sell you the exact match cloth for a decent price. It's sold by the Yard, but that does not mean a square yard. Usually 54 inch long.
They have a chart to exactly match any year truck/car interior.
You can buy the actual material Ford uses, or a generic color matched brand.
While you are there, you can price any labor you want done. I had the center 20 seat recovered. I went to four places, one wanted 85 bucks, one wanted 125, and one wanted 150. The fourth place didn't want to do it at all, too busy, but wanted to show me how to do it. But I don't have a sewing machine so...
I went with the 125 price just because I liked the guy better than the one for 85. Probably no difference.

These prices are with tax, labor and fabric.
The guy that did mine had to order the fabric as he was out of it. When the cloth came in I stopped by and checked it out before he used it. Nice stuff, Ford name and color designation on the roll.
I also bought some cheap leather-like fabric at a chain fabric shop. This was just generic black.
I used it to cover a console I was using.
That stuff was a pretty good color match, but the fabric had a slightly smoother texture than Ford uses, so that wasn't a good choice for a whole seat. It was also noticably lighter duty than the Ford stuff.
This material cost about 7 bucks a yard.
The actual Ford match fabric is about 15-20 a yard.
