Cut it off. I cut off my 7pin/4pin wire harness plate and relocated it out of sight.

Well I'm slightly hesitant to just cutt it right off. Maybe somebody can confirm the purpose of this plate. I know the picture is dark but right above it you can see what appears to be a round rubber piece of some sort.

Anyone know it's purpose or what it is?

Thanks again,

Duke

Don't know what the pieces are for but wanted to say love the setup. I was considering those tips for mine and read the thread a while back on you getting ready to do it so I figured I would let you be the tester, to see if it would look as good as I pictured it. They look Awsome , don't want to be a bitter, but I'm gonna get those put on as soon as I can.

Two questions though, what brand tips did you end up going with, and are they SS?
Thanks

Hey blkscrew5.4,

Well if you have an 05 you'll run into the same piece of metal that I am. I think they look fine hanging down slightly from the bumper, but they would look better if they were near flush. However, I'm not going to just hack off a piece of metal without being abosolutely positive what purpose it serves and the reprecussions of removing or relocating it.

The tips are Stainless Steel Magnaflow "Camaro" Style Tips, (along with the entire catback system and the extension pipe for the driver's side tip, it's all stainless). You can get them for roughly $112.00 or so. I know Troyer has access to all things Magnaflow as well as hottexhaust.com.

All,

I haven't decided if I'm going to sell or keep my other Magnaflow rolled round tips that came with the catback or not. They're brand new and in flawless shape. I'll probably just keep them for future possible use if I get bored with this look.

But if someone on the site is in need of them, they can always email me through this site by clicking on my name and sending me an email with a request. Per forum rules I won't be discussing any requests for my original tips further in this thread. Please email me if you're interested. If you do make a request in this thread, I will kindly request that you remove it.

Thanks,

Duke

F150 Duke,

My '05 F150 has that bracket you pointed out in your pic which prevents having your tips closer to your bumper. I could be wrong, but I believe that little assembly with the rubber wheel in it is a vibration dampener that some of these trucks came with. When I installed my magnaflow kit, I couldn't get my tips as close to the bumper as I would have liked because that bracket was in the way. I didn't attempt to remove it tho because someone mentioned to me it was a vibration dampener and I was afraid as soon as I took it off, my truck would develop the dreaded vibe I read about all the time. Again, I could be wrong. BTW, awesome setup you have! I really, really love those tips. Good job!

Hey kotond99,

You bring up an excellent point! I went down to the truck during lunch (it's freezing in Best Buy's corporate parking garage, the thing isn't heated and it's 20 out) and took a look at it.

It does look like a vibration dampner and it looks like that metal plate is there because the rubber ball could flex down to the plate under severe stress.

You could remove the plate and hope you don't damage the vibration dampner or cause something to happen to it because it doesn't have the protective plate. However, I would advise against this as I'm not going to do it. The exhaust tips look good enough, even though they would look a ton better being closer to the bumper. However, like you said, it's not worth getting the dreaded vibe every 04 is complaining about by removing a vibration dampner.

Thanks,

Duke

EDIT: Accidental Double-Post. For some reason it posted this twice. I think this is a proxy problem.

Well fellas I bring news of my mysterious metal plate and rubber ball.

Ah hah! Finally we know what it is. Thanks fellas, but I think I'm going to play it safe and not risk getting this vibe you guys have. I'm keeping the rubber on my ***** and not risking getting the vibe.

I'll live with the tips being down a little bit.

Duke,
Thanks for the reply mine is an 05, XLT though, I looked at lunch today also and that vibe kit is there. I agree no removal for me. One more thing, I can't imagine too much, but do you think those tips changed the sound much over say either the original tips or the tips I was also thinking about, like a 4" or 4.5" X 22" or around that size sorry for all the questions TIA though

Hey Duke,
That looks great man. I have been waiting for pics. After seeing those it makes me like my tips a lot less . I'm glad the resonator worked out. It made the sound just right for me and sounds like for you too

by the way what is all that white suff on the ground?

Hey blkscrew5.4,

It's hard to say how much the tips changed the sound. Because during the time I switched the tips, I also had a resonator put on before the muffler. The resonator cut my total sound albeit noise, drone or rumble, in half.

The catback comes with 3.5 inch round rolled tips. They were also 18 inches long. Don't go longer than 18 inches long or your tips will stick out the back like crazy. My 18 inch tips stuck out roughly 1.5-2 inches past the outer edge of the chrome bumper. Because of the vibration kit and trailer hitch metal, you can't get the tips to slide farther back UNLESS you drop them down another 1 inch in terms of height. That would make them WAY TOO LOW in terms of looks. I wouldn't suggest having your tips any lower then mine are right now. As it is, even the 18inch long 3.5inch wide tip that comes with the kit will sit lower than my camaro tips because of the roundness and length of the tip and how it will come into contact with the vibration kit and metal plates from the trailer hitch. For reference my Magnaflow camaro tips are 11inches long.

The tips do change the tone of your exhaust ever so slightly. It's hard to describe how they change it tough. It doesn't sound bad by any stretch, nor is it really all that noticeable. They won't change the level of sound you have, just the overall tone. The tone should be a little lower.

Hope that helps. Oh by the way, try turning on the truck without a muffler on when you're doing the switch to the catback. It sounds unreal, just like an old muscle car or stock car. I'd of left it like that for a few days, just for grins but I needed someone to help me finish the install and he wasn't available the next week. So I just put the new setup on right away.

Duke

Hey 05SilverFX4,

Geese long time no see on the boards! Thanks again for all your help with picking out the correct setup, providing sounds clips, how-to's and such. The resonator has helped a lot in terms of cutting the sound down. I wouldn't want the exhaust to be any quieter than it is. Maybe a little less "moan" on the highway or going uphill would be nice though. Oh well, I'm going to leave well enough alone with it.

Thanks again,

Duke
