swapping diff and gears ?

I am swapping out my non LS rear for a TrueTrac and some 4.10s.
What am I going to need to do this. Should I get the "master install kit" for installing a ring and pinion and diff. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks
M V

You'll need the differential assembly and ring and pinion. Along with this, you'll need pinion shims, carrier shims, a new crush sleeve, and a new pinion nut. Replacing all the bearings and races (front and rear pinion, carrier and maybe axle) would be advisable as well. The shims, crush sleeve and pinion nut should come with a new ring and pinion.

Cool, thanks for the info. I am pretty sure all of the above listed are included in the Master Install kit.

Thanks again

Correct.

If you find someone that is experienced in doing gear swaps and rear end work... they will understand what you want.

So with LS both of the will turn? Any other differences? Noise, mpg's, handling, power? I am not even sure if I need it but my friends rag on me cuz I don't have it.

It's not that simple... If you had a LS diff, and you put one foot on the brake and mashed the gas, both will spin.

Noise. No difference
MPG. No
Handling. NO
Power. NO.

Do a google search for limited slip stuff and lockers and stuff like that... You'll find better info than you will here.

i asume you are having a shop do the install, if you are asking what you need to install it if you plan on doing it yourself i highly advise you to have someone there that has done a ring and pinion there to guide you it is a lengthy process and must be perfect, you will also need a few speceal tools that the everyday mech does not have a micromiter caliper, a bearing press(not exactly needed you can use a hot plate and a freezer but this does not always work) a magnetic base dial indicator for mesuring backlash, if you are paying a shop to do it you will only need the master install kit the new ring and pinion and the diff ***. that you plan on using, and if it is 4x4 you must change the front ring and pinion to match the rear, good luck

It is easier to spin out w/ LS considering both wheels would have foward motion instead of just one

Very true, which makes it even more exciting/fun to drive.
I love going sideways.
