depends on the trailer. Level the trailer, back up to the hitch and measure.

I appreciate your response but I pull several different trailers. Jet ski, bass boat, or pontoon. So trailer length would vary from 14' to 30'.

I am looking for a ball park answer for all purpose towing. 2", 3", or 4".

The 06 seems to have a taller stance than the previous trucks I have owned.

The adjustable tri ball from cabela's is a $179.99. The 2", 4", 6" drops are $20 bucks each locally. I could buy all three for $60 bucks. It ain't rocket science.

I'm just asking what works for you guys that tow.

The 2" drop should be fine.

I also have a stock 06 supercab w/ 6.5 bed, and tow an enclosed 20 foot wells cargo motorcycle trailer w/ twin axle. I found the 3" drop to be ideal.
Ilan.

I went for the 2" drop for best all around but mine is a 4X4. The trailer is a 12' single axle with 15" wheels.
Keep in mind that you can flip it over(the draw bar that is).

The 2" drop is fine for a stock vehicle, meaning no leveling or raising of the vehicle stance. I pull a 18' boat trailer, and it rides level with the 2".

trailer length has nothing to do with it; it is a matter of the level tongue height, and also the tongue weight of that particular trailer. A jet ski trailer is very likely to sit lower to the ground than say a pontoon boat trailer.

Jack up your trailer tongues until the frame is level than measure the height from the ground. Most likely you will see that each of your trailers is a different height. Also, a trailer with a heavier tongue weight will squat the rear of your truck lower, requiring less of a drop to keep the trailer level when hooked up.

Sorry, but there is no one size fits all answer you can get from the internet. The only way is to measure all your trailers. Every trailer is different, and every truck is different due to wheelbase, tire size, etc.

I use a 2" when pulling a bass boat, when towing a 5'x8' trailer I use a 4" drop. I agree with Inbred measure all your trailers but there might be one that is close enough to work with all of them.

I pull a 15' utility trailer from time to time, 2" drop levels it out just fine, FWIW.
