Any one attempt to make your own bed cover? Im straped for cash this season and got to do somthing before it snows and I ice skate around the back of my screw scouping out lbs's of white stuff. I got a plan with some aluminum chanell and piano hinges, any ideas on matirial besides wood? and its got to be affordable.

Depends on how much money we're talking about. On a budget you could use some plywood and paint it. But I think by the time you buy wood, paint, hinges, etc. you might as well buy a cover. I spent $189 for my soft tonneau cover. Good luck....

I made one for my 05 scab. It's ½ inch exterior ply wood over a 2x2 (2x4 ripped in half) frame. I cut the cross braces in an arc so it would shed water, and painted it black. Material costs were around $90 and it took a Saturday morning to make.

I made one for a friend one time by using two sheets of 3/8" marine plywood and covering it with vinyl. Used 1/2" X 1/2" aluminum L brackets screwed to the inside lip of the bed for it to rest on, then used barrel bolts to hold it down. Wasn't completely waterproof, but since nobody makes tonneau covers for 1948 Chevy pickups, it was a pretty good alternative...
