Dashboard Wiring Question (FX4&EXCURSION, other experts)

I have sort of an uncommon problem...

I have the harness in the dash board for the factory subwoofer, but not under the back seat of the truck... I am making my own wiring harness for the subwoofer and was planning on cutting and using the connector behind the dash.

Do you know if it is safe to cut it off and cap the wires? From what I have read my connector runs to the main wiring harness and just stops. I don't believe there is a 12V power source heading TO the HU...but I would just like some expert opinions.

Thanks guys

If I understand your plan correctly, there is no reason why you couldn't cut the plug off and isolate the wiring. Even if you have power in that harness, if you isolate and (as you said) "cap" the wires, you don't have to worry about letting the smoke out...

Any chance on finding a wrecked 04+ at the salvage yard and snagging the harness?

Actually, you'd be fine even if you didn't cap the wires. The only lines you have in the plug at the HU are Sub +, Sub-, Drain (for shielding), and Sub Enable (4.5V that originates at the HU).

Cut away.

E...

Sorry, just caught your post! Yes, I agree with the others here. Capping the wires is fine.
