CarlJ, You hit it right on the head. That is exactly what is happening to mine. I'm waiting for some more cold weather to bring it back in.

Somebody didn't put a Chevy 5.3 under your hood while you weren't looking did they?

Did any of you guys figure out the cause of this yet? My 2000 XLT just started doing it today. I should say that today is the first I noticed it. Just as CarlJ described, it's a "soft tapping" sound that almost sounds like an exhuast leak. It gradually goes away after a few minutes and as it goes away, it takes harder acceleration to hear it. And just like CarlJ, I am the exact way with my truck. I love it and over all it runs great, but the little nuissance things like this that most people would either not even hear or just ignore drive me crazy. I just started usiing Mobil 1 full syntheric 5x30 and I have a drop in K&N filter. Wonder if these have anything to do with it? The truck has about 56,000 miles on it.

I am going to the dealer tomorrow for a reflash.

I filled up once with 89 gas and I noticed it seemed to keep the knock down some. I am just not sure what it could be.... hopefully the reflash will fix it.

I'll keep you posted.

Sounds good. Hey what's a reflash anyway?
