Options for quieting down a Magnaflow SIDO - You Decide!

So everyone knows about me trying to quiet down my Magnaflow SIDO. I've called 5 exhaust shops and nobody has a good idea, and the opinions are split.

What would be quieter and which one should I go with?

Vote for-

1. 5X11X22 Magnaflow replacing my 5X8X18 magnaflow muffler

OR

2. Keep the 5X8X18 Magnaflow muffler and use a Magnaflow Resonator in front of my 5X8X18 magnaflow muffler

Add the resonator and let us know how the sound changes. If it quiets down I will do the same. keep us posted. At ~ $60.00 it is worth a try.

I swear for everyone that says resonator, there is another that says muffler. It may come down to labor costs between the two. Any exhaust experts out there?

Thanks again 05SilverFX4! "The video is being optimized now", so I'll check back on it in a bit.

Just use a generic glasspack/resonator. Its a straight thru design so it wont increase backpressure. Ive done this on other vehicles and it does make a difference. If you can find a generic glasspack at a muffler place for cheap, save your money and dont get the nagnaflow one...its built the same.

this brings up the question/arguement about the loudness of mufflers.
People were bashing Flowmaster owners about how much quieter Magnaflows are but if its causing problems, it tells me that its pretty loud. In comparison, my flowmaster Super-40 (not to be confused with 40 series mufflers) has a great tone but is not loud at all.
So what gives?

HIDPlanet,

Well I'm just really sensitive to noise, the magnaflow isn't really all that bad.

Side note, Larry is making me a wiring harness for my HIDretrofit and needs to know some info that I don't know how to get or what the answers are. Could you help?

1. Do the OEM low beams stay on when the high beams are flashed by pulling the lever towards you?

2. 1. Do the OEM low beams stay on when the high beams are set on by pushing the lever away from you?

3. Need to know the polorities of all the pins when your headlights are off, when it's low beams and when it's high beams.

I greatly appreciate any help you can provide HIDPlanet, as I know you've got your hands full with server problems.

Thanks again,

Duke

1. The lows shold remain ON when the lever is pulled.

2. Low beams are supposed to turn OFF when highs are permanently on.

3. There are only 3 wires to the stock plug. I forget the layout but I can check for you soon. I just cut the wire plug and used the wires to trigger a relay. How does he plan to make a harness without having H13 acceptors? Just curious.

No idea, he said for $50 he'd make it plug and play for me since I have no idea how to wire my truck for HIDs. I understand how the HIDs work and the mechanics of all that stuff, but that's the one thing I can't figure out, is wiring.

No offense but this can be easily checked with a multimeter, if you dont have one its a great investment.

Yeah I don't have one. I can't really justify getting one just to check it out because I've lived this long without a multimeter (ok so not that long that I would actually use it) but still. If someone who either knows the info, or has a few minutes to check it for me when they get the opportunity, I would be extremely grateful!

Side note:

I go in tomorrow to Midas and another exhaust shop to get quotes on welding up the exhaust and either doing a bigger muffler (5X11X22) or a resonator. Just can't decide which one, some shops say muffler for sure, others say maybe the resonator.

I think I may go with the new muffler and just have the rear pipes bent a little bit to fit the new muffler.

Very funny.... .

Actually I'm having the magnaflow resonator installed in front of the 18 inch muffler on Tuesday of next week. He's also going to weld all my clamped connections and weld on the camaro exhaust tips with a pipe extender in front of them, since they'd be 1.5 inches too short.

Cost of the resonator: $58.35
Cost of labor: $100

Not too bad, too make sure everything is setup alright and on tight with the right tips and a little quieter.
