Lug nuts....What ft.lbs.???

I tried removing my wheels today so I could do a brake job but could not get ANY of the lug nuts off! I used a hefty lug wrench with a 3' cheater and could not even get the nuts to budge. I have never seen this in my life.

My question is what is the proper torque setting for the lug nuts?

I will have a tire shop break them free, but I want to retorque them correctly or atleast to where I can get them off if I have a flat (which I am very glad has not happened or I would have been stranded).

150 ft-lbs. is what I believe the torque specs are on the lug nuts. It's high, yes, but is removable. I am surprised you didn't get them off with that 3' cheater. Maybe the last place to take them off (or the factory) overtorqued them.

150 ft. lbs. is correct. Be sure to tighten them in a criss-cross pattern.

150 foot pounds is not really that hard to break loose if you have a halfway decent wrench. My guess is that if you couldn't bust them loose with the big cheater bar you mentioned, the boys at the brake shop didn't torque your wheels at all -- they just wrenched them down as tight as they would go with their impact wrench!

Have them do it right with an accurate torque wrench -- especially if you have custom rims on your truck!

You'll get a million difference answers here, but Ford specifies 150 ft. lbs. Like those have said, criss cross tighten!

Yes, 150 ft-lb. And it is listed in the owners manual.

I guess the 80 ft-lbs for my Mustang is norm to me.
Now I know what to torque them too.

Thanks

The torque spec on the lug nuts is 400ft-lbs, same as the oil filter.

This is why I suggested a few days ago on a thread about someone getting his oil filter off for the first time to check his lug nuts as well. I ran into the same thing the first time I tried to take my wheels off. 5 on my front wheels were so tight I had to use a 3' cheater and wound up twisting the shaft on the lug wrench on the last one.

150 FT-LBS like everyone here as already said however I only tighten them up to 130 FT-LBS, with no problems.
