The Reflash Works!

Went in for my 35K service yesterday and decided to ask for a reflash of my pcm. My service guy asked me what for and I told him that I was experienceing poor throttle response and an unwilling engine when it came to finding the right gear to be in all the time. He said no problem, there's a TSB our for that sort of thing.

HOLY CRAP!! What a difference. It was like waking up a sleeping giant. The truck sounds awesome, and it shifts perfectly now. When I stomp on it, it goes like right now. And I layed a 10 foot patch from a dead stop. I can't believe I didn't do this a long time ago. The exhaust note actually sounds way meaner and the low end torque puts me back in my seat. I know it's not an XCal2 or anything, but I'm really loving my truck again as a result. I drove around all day just for the fun of it. I haven't done that for quite a long time.

I'd like to thank all you guys who have done this for your info. on the subject.

Exclamation Quick answers requested

I wish my dealer would say "No Problem". They've been giving me the run around about re-flashing it as if it's some sort of life or death procedure. Any suggestions on what exactly I should say to persuade them to re-flash it? It's got the original program from the original build date 08/03. I'm experiencing all of the same old tricks as everyone else, and it seems they've been remedied with a re-flash. What can I say to the dealer to make them 'want' to re-flash the PCM? Suggestions? I'm carrying it back in the morning.

I'm not sure if you have to be 'eligible' or not for the reflash. The newer trucks probably come from the factory with the pcm already up to date. Why put a TSB out and keep building the trucks with the old codes? It doesn't make sense. I guess you have to figure out the date at which the factory changed the stock pcm setup. My build date was Sept. '03, one of the earliest. I thought that being one of the oldest trucks out there I should definitely be one of the ones requiring the upgrade.

I have my receipt here in front of me and it says the TSB is #04-21-4.

I just flat out told them my tranny was very hesitant about downshifting and it was always searching for the right gear. I also mentioned poor throttle response. If they don't do it, take your business elsewhere and let them know it. They'll probably change their tune (pun indended).
