Precision or Yukon?
Precision or Yukon?
First things first.
I've read multiple posts here about trying to get 4.56:1 ring & pinion sets from Ford Racing for 9.75 rear end. Most asked question has been: When will Ford Racing actually have them versus just listing them on their website? Answer: They're now available. Second most asked question: Are they Ford OEM? Answer: No. Ford Racing tech says they're made by Motive Gear.
Based on all the HIGHLY VALUABLE input here (shameless brown-nosing) I'm getting 4.56s to go with the 325/65R18 Nitto T/Gs (and Rancho 4") on my '06 Black FX4 SCAB.
Top choices look to be Precision or Yukon.
Wanted to know what you guys think before I take the plunge.
Don't want to have to whine about whine later.

Precisions whine too.
But, either set is good. Are you doing the install or a local shop? If a local shop is doing the install, get a waranty on them and it wont matter which set you get. Even Genuine is a good set with a warranty.
I have some gear whine at highway speeds when "coasting". I have a warranty on the gears so the truck is going in after Thanksgiving at no charge to me.

Much thanks for the input you guys!!!
Based on bigtruck311's extensive r&p experience, sounds like Precision would be the way to go with Yukon a close second.
I've heard conflicting opinions on whine:
1. "All r&p gears over 3.73 or so will whine somewhat. It's the nature of the beast."
2. "A well done r&p install won't whine even with 4.88s and beyond."
Per your question brypink2 - I'd planned to have the dealership do it. Service Mgr is a friend and chief mechanic came in #2 in Ford's national mechanic's competition. I figure that improves my odds. Don't know that they'll formally "warranty" their work per se, but expect they'd make it right if it's not the first time.

a skilled mech that takes his time will be able to get a RP to not whine, but it will have to be a perfect pattern for anything above a 4.10 and than only alittle off throttle(coast side) would be aceptable to me, i have 4.88 and i have just a tiny bit of off throttle whine and i have a perfect pattern when i did my ring and pinion, i used genuin gears because it was the only 4.88 avaliable at the time and i have heard they have a tendancy to have alittle off throttle whine, just make sure you have a good tech. do the install and you should have no problems, good luck
