Changing gears in my 04, any recommendations?
I'm in the process of deciding which gear ratio to go with but I'm more concerned with finding the "best" gear. I've found Precision, Genuine, OX and Yukon.
Who makes the strongest set and has the best reputation. Also, I'm upgrading my LS unit while they've got it apart and considering a Detroit True-trac or the Auburn unit. Any thoughts/experiences.
For those who have switched to 4.10's or 4.56's, what set-up are you running and have you had any problems with them?
Thanks in advance

I put 4.10 gears in mine. Im currently running 31" tires. At 65mph, I run at almost exactly 2000 RPM.
They are ford gears. You wont find any part #s for 2004+ 9.75" gear sets, but they're out there. Any gear shop can get em. I think its the same ring and pinion in the previous year(s) 9.75".
I personally dont have any experience in other gear sets, but from what I have heard, Ford parts are easier to set pinion depth and backlash on and will most likely stay quiet longer. Mine are *pretty* quiet. You can hear them if you reallly listen for them. Ford Gear set 9.75" cost me $340 + install.
Much better acceleration and *hardly* any loss in MPG.
EDIT: Looking in your gallery, I notice you have a 3.73 gear set already. Why would you want to upgrade? Personally, I wouldnt think it would be worth it to up grade to 4.10's from 3.73.
Maybe 4.56 would be better for you, especially if you ever planned on running a bigger tire.

When I ordered my 4.56 rear I used the same chart. According to the mechanics I have met, if you want a real kick in the pants and are willing to drive kindly at sane speeds on the highways, the 4.56 is the way to go. According to the chart, it does not seemed too overgeared. Just a bit. I will be getting mine installed in the next couple of weeks
Just as a frame of reference, the Dodge SRT-10 Quad cab is equiped from the factory with a 4.56.
The only problem you may encounter is vibration. It seems that a few people have had problems with this after switching to bigger gears. I will just have to keep my fingers crossed.

If you going to do gears, go all out. DO NOT just uprade to the next avail set, you wont even notice a difference. 4.30 or 4.56 in this case.

31.5" i believe
I am running 35"s as well right now and want to re-gear. Im thinking of 4.56's. What brand of gear should i go with? And what do i need? Just the gearset? or do i need master install kits and such? I have a 4x4 with the 9.75 rear end and 8.8reversecut front end. My truck has 7000 miles on it if that maters for bearings and such.
Thanks,
