My old truck had a 4.6 and I did a magnaflow cat-back from Mike. When I spoke w/ Mike he said in the test he has done, magnaflow was the best at not killing your low end tq.

Mag catback. I had the 18 inch, too loud at low throttle climbing in the regular cab. Now the 24 which is very good.

Neither one killed my torque.
The 18 was VERY noticable, but off the line was great.

18" Magnaflow dumped.

IMCO and Flowmaster killed my torque. Magnaflow helped it. I have now discovered why everyone uses this muffler.

It was the 3" pipe SISO kit Mike had when I ordered. Not sure what size muffler it came with though.

I was able to install it myself quickly in my driveway though. The kit was a simple bolt-up to the factory exhaust.

You put the magnaflows on? Did it really make a big enough difference, for the $?

Noname, I did it because of the drone. It was so damn loud. I'm 20 and I like loud, but this was ridiculous! I now have an 18" Magnaflow dumped under the bed. Sounds great, nice and loud when you're on it, rumble when accelerating easy, QUIET on the freeway. It is a smoother deeper sound than the IMCO. Definitely have my low end back, but the 20s on my truck killed that a lot more than my muffler did. I loved how the IMCO sounded though. The only thing I didn't like is how it made my engine sound like it was working hard at WOT when I was just driving normally. The Magnaflow conveys how you're driving a lot better in the fact that in normal driving it's just a nice rumble that lets people know you have exhaust. It is a lot smoother when you rev it out to 5000 RPMs (it shifts around there, according to the tach in my cousin's truck). It cost me $125. It would probably be cheaper just to weld a Magnaflow into your pipes where your IMCO is now if you wanted to switch. But unless you lost a lot of power I don't see why you wouldn't want to. It just irritates me I didn't listen to people on here and get the dumped Magnaflow in the first place. Instead I got a Flowmaster?! (why? )
I wrote a long review in the exhaust section under "dumped Magnaflow" of all the mufflers I've had on this truck, and one on my cousin's 2006 F150 with the 4.6L. If you like IMCO keep the exhaust and put that money towards gears. That's what I'm going to be doing in February hopefully. 4.56s+tuner.

I had a 98 F-150 SCAB FLARESIDE 4.6L. I had a custom shop put a y-pipe in after the cat and dual straight pipes out the back. This was the best sounding truck Ive ever had. It was not loud unless I really got on it, or it was cold. Never had a problem with the law either. No cabin drone because there was no mufflers to resonate. All the sound went out the back. Awesome sound when accelerating, and once OD kicked in it quieted down significately. Plenty of back pressure, power and gas mileage also increased. I couldn't have been happier with that truck. Now, I have to figure out what to do with my 05 5.4L. I think a straight pipe would be way to loud on the 5.4L Guess I could try it and if I don't like it I could always have a single in / dual out magnaflow installed.
