Exclamation Dead Horse...Programming Reflash- UPDATE!!!!!

So I just got off the phone with some tech @ the dealer after I requested my 2005 5.4 to be reprogrammed with the typical reaons (ie high idle, slow to accelerate, slow to downshift, bad MPG) and his response was that the trucks are in some type of learning mode up to 5,000 miles, and somtimes 6,500. this "mode" keeps it from getting good economy or being aggressive.

He claims that if I reset my PCM with a simple battery unplug that it will bypass this function.

I tried not to laugh on the phone because it sounded like a fat load of crap. Especially since a lot of new cars have the battery ie before ever being purchased at some point while on the lot.

Anyway... I guess I will give that a shot tonight..but I find it to be a fat load.

He ALSO claims that the truck simply will NOT accept ANY Ford reflash or programming on the engine before 5,000 miles. When I asked about chips he said aftermarket will work but it voids the warranty (duh).

But I was pretty sure users here had their trucks re-flashed under 5,000 miles.

anyone?

When I first got my truck, I was getting about 12 MPG maybe 14 on the highway.
I have a regular cab and then I had 3.55 gears.... It remained that way up untill about 8000 miles.... slowly starting getting better MPG... Up untill I changed to 4.10 gears, I was getting 20MPG highway.

Trust me, the MPG will get better.. The slugish throttle-- Its a truck. Sorry.

Is it safe to assume that those who have had a reflash under 5000 have had good results from it?

My truck was reflashed with less than 1000 miles on the odometer with good results. No issues or problems at all.

So I reset my PCM last night..haven't driven all that much but so far my mileage is up to 13 mpg. Before, REGARDLESS of my habits it NEVEr peaked over 12.3 mpg. Maybe the guy was right about resetting the PCM and having it cancel the 5k mile "learning phase?"

I just talked to my dealer about 5 minutes ago and they said they were only allowed to do it if they could verify the problems. I am sure they will not duplicate it when they drive it. At least they will say they didn't. Would it not save them time to just do the reflash instead of driving it around trying to see if it does it? From what I understand, it is only a five minute process. My biggest problem is the 3-2 clunk. I am probably going to drop it off tomorrow morning.

If anybody knows a dealer in the Memphis area that will do it please let me know. I bought it at Lander's and so far have been pretty happy with them. We'll see how I feel about them after tomorrow.
