New Tailgate

I ruined my tailgate the other day... long story. But, my question is... how much will a new tailgate cost? I am wonering if I should bid on one on ebay for $295. The one on ebay is supposedly in good shape on the outside but scrtched on the inside (doesnt matter becuause i will have it line-x-ed to match the bed). I was just wondering if anyone had any idea what an OEM tailgate costs.. also, can you get them factory painted? or does it have to be done by a body shop?

thanks.

you could probably check fordparts.com but ebay is great when you come across a deal. Check maybe a local junk yard.

Just be aware that the majority of tailgates for sale on eBay are stolen. If it's a locking tailgate and they don't have the key, it's a safe bet it's stolen.

Did the same thing not to long ago. Kept watching e-bay until a good deal showed up, and bought a used gate in relatively great condition for $100. Had it color matched at a local body shop for $160. Haven't had the liner sprayed on the back of it yet, but so far my total into the repair is just over $270 including new 3m tape to put the badges back on. Good Luck.

Im not going to steal one....

And... saying that most on ebay are stolen... i dont know if i buy that. There seems to be plenty of legit salvage yards that sell on ebay. not having a key doesnt seem to be a good indication that it is stolen. I cant think of any situation where someone would supply a key with the tailgate. Either way it seems like it isnt a very good deal. The only plus is that it would be the right color and is supposedly in good shape. So, i might not have to havce it painted. But, i dont trust it to get shipped here with no damage.

New one from fordparts.com is 270.64 for a styleside plus shipping. I think you can order it paint to match.

Google will bring up many choices for you. Shop for an hour and you'll have about 25 different places to consider. W/ shipping insurance covers damaged stuff so pay the extra 2.00 dollars to insure your merchandise. Ford parts sounds good if it's painted to match
