I'm thinking about going to the track soon-tuners?

I'm thinking, with all the talk of 1/4 miles and such here, that I should go do a little racing with my truck. Right now I would be humiliated but I want to go after I get my gears and tuning. Which leads to my questions. First - what would my quarter mile look like with 4.56 gears and a tuner? My truck is a regular cab long bed 4.6L. I opened up the stock intake and have a Magnaflow exhaust as well. Second question - what is a good tuner to get. I know the Troyer XCal2 is excellent, but is the Diablo Predator a better programmer? Is there custom programming for the Diablo available? Thanks for your help.

Bamachips, check them out for the xcal2, the diablo has been out for well over a year now, but the xcal2 is just a step up, considering it was realeased a year later (different companies)

The "troyer xcal2" is just a bunch of hearsay and the most part these people KNOW nothing in comparison, so they only think they have the best. They wouldnt think they have the worse now would they?

Asinatra, what is the advantage of the Bamachips XCal2 over the Troyer? Besides the turnaround time?

Back it up. Explain to us why the Troyer people "Know nothing in comparison" to the people at Bamachips. You can't make a statement like that and not provide a reason for making it.
I know nothing about Bamachips (and therefore would not make negative comments about them), but I do know Mike and Anita Troyer put out an outstanding product backed by great customer service/support.
Have you ever held a conversation with Mike Troyer?
Have you ever owned a tuner or other product sold by Troyer?

I think he was saying THE PEOPLE with the Troyer programmers are the ones that know nothing. Meaning we don't know anything about the other programmers out there like Bama. As for myself.... can't argue with him there. I know nothing about the other guys..... but am really happy with my Troyer tune. His wording is a bit harsh though..... easy there Asinatra.

On the other hand I also think the fastest 04-06's on this board are running Troyer tunes (Hellbound and Fatherford)

At the risk of getting banned, you sir are a total -ssclown!!! My personal opinion and I am entitled to it...You seem to go out of your way to slam, sabotage, and trash talk Troyer Performance everytime you speak. Can you tell me so I will understand, what has that Company ever done to you???

those singlecab ****'s.

I agree with Asinatra...[yet again]...have you seen the thread where they talk about the troyer 93 perf tune only netting you 20+hp. Thats after $500...the smoother shifting, etc is still not quite worth $500 to me. I am going to probably get the troyer tune but I hate false hype, please Mike, make a believer out of me.

I have no experience with other tunes but for my $500 it's going to be harder to convince me it's worth than it was 90% of the guys on here. I have high expectations and my truck already can whip 360's real good completely stock. Like I said, I'll be getting a video soon. (I got the video, will be posting it).

20 "real hp" is actually pretty good. Problem is we all see these "10-15 hp" advertisments that really net you jack S#@!. I gotta tell you..... when I uploaded the tune and drove it the first time I was thrilled. First time I punched it and it barked second... a smile came across my face.

But hey... as far as I know those other tuners may do the same or better. I went with the Troyer tune because it was the only one I saw on the net where people had the qtr mile times and/or Dyno sheets to back up their opinions.

Just the opinion of this no nothing singlecab ****

I was making a joke about single cab owners

As for 20 rwhp being a lot...to me thats nothing on paper for $500, but maybe it's the "seat of the pants" that makes it worth it.

I know you were joking man..... no offense taken

This board needs people that go against the grain. I may not always agree with how it was worded, but it's a good thing.

I do think all of us can agree on one thing. Fourpointsix, get a tune. Find a safe and reliable source. Also think about your "needs".... do you have to have dataloging capabilities, etc. I picked up the Xcal I from troyer for considerably less than $500 (I know we can't talk price on these board). Also check into Bama and some of the other companies. Get info from people like Asinatra that are USING the product and have first hand knowledge (also not affiliated with the company). And remember, what works for a 5.4 may or may not work on yours. The main reason our 5.4's react so well to the tuners is the low shift points and the drive by wire system which you do not have)

First of all, the most important thing is seat of the pants feeling. That is the first thing that will make you decide if the performance product is good or bad.
I have owned more than ten vehicles in my life (and modified every one of them), and the XCAL 2 for my F-150 was the best engine performance mod for the money I have ever purchaced.

Unless your truck is some freak show, a stock F-150 is very detuned from the factory. Buy a tuner and you will see what we are talking about.

Just curious, what would you buy with your $500 to make your truck perform better?
