Exclamation Brake Controler box...WTF?

Ok so i just put in my brake controler box in my truck and it wont work. I put the relay fuse in like the little brake diagram says that they send in the glove box and it still wont work. I just cant figure it out. I know the controler works because it just came out of my last truck not too long ago. Is there another fuse or something i have to do??

I'm sorry that I don't have an answer to your question, but I wanted to chime in real quickly and ask where you mounted your controller (and if you had any pics of the install).

Other than that, if you have a volt meter that can check continuity it might help trace down the problem. Also - assuming you used the same connector/harness that was already on your controller - are you sure the pin-outs match up to the new truck? I haven't installed one in mine yet, but I wondered if they kept the pinouts in the same location on the connectors from one year to the next.

Good luck,

Dave

I know my truck came with a fuse and wire to install the controller. Did you also connect the wire? Haven't done mine yet but I'm interested in what you find out.

All the fuse does is let your truck charge the battery on a camper if it has one. What kind of brake controller is it? Some of them require that it is mounted level.

Do you have your trailer hooked up? My controller wont turn on unless there is a trailer attached. BTW I mounted mine up above the stereo in that little tray.

Under the dash on the left side there is a metal bracket i used. Im guessing they have it put on there for mounting the box. The control box is level and its a good one. I put the relay fuse in on the passenger side but still nothing. I took it by ford and had a mechanic come look at it and he checked for power. There was power and the light on my brake box would light up but for whatever reason when its hooked to the trailer it wouldnt work. He checked the connector in the back of the truck and thought that there could be a fuse blown. He really doesnt work with wiring so he wasnt sure. My main mechanic was gone on vacation.

I will get an answer with in a day or so i hope. I will talk to my uncle who used to work at ford because he was their main mechanic especially in the wiring field. He should beable to figure it out. In fact i just talked to him and he said he would come look at it. I dont see why it wont work? The box is good and there is power but when its hooked up to the trailer i have no brakes. And the trailers brakes DO work.

Check for power with a test light on the trailer. Possible probs are a bad plug or no ground.

You also have to add a 30 amp jas fuse to slot 105 in the fuse panel to power the brake controller.
