Question Help - Window Tint

I've gone to four different tint shops in my local area over the last three weeks or so in [desperate] search of someone who'll tint the front windows on my '05 Screw Lariat to match the factory tinted rear windows, with no luck what so ever.

Here's the problem:

No one will do a 20% tint like I want (I've been told this is the texture of the rear windows, though one guy was adamant that it was 15%). The very best I - or they - can do is all of 'em will agree to do the "legal" tint of 35% . . . but I'm not happy with that. A local '05 Screw FX4 owner had his done this way recently, and to me it looks like crap.Standing and viewing from the side of the truck - regardless of time of day or lighting - the difference between the front and rear windows is as clear as daylight . . . I don't want this.

I've offered all these guys CASH payment WITHOUT a receipt (don't ask, don't tell), but nada! None of 'em will come to the party. Poopers!

My question is two-fold.

How do you guys - those who have had their front windows tinted 20% or darker - get away with it? How do you find someone who'll do an illegal tint?

I'm located just out of Richmond, Virginia. Can anyone give me a contact of someone who'll do it? Like I said, I'm NOT fussy as to the quality of film and I could care less about a receipt . . . I'll pay CASH and disappear.

Whadaya say?

Help a fellow Ford owner out . . . please!

Wish I could help ya.

I only have a regular cab.. I told the guy I wanted 20% on the front windows and to black out ever window behind my head with 5%. He did no questions asked..

He is a good family friend though. But he has all his customes sign a waiver stating they they cannot prosecute him if they get busted for having too dark of a tint job.

Maybe try that.. write up a document stating thet you wont press charges against him for doing the job if its "too dark".

I had the same problem. Just being happy the legal limit is 35% in Virginia. In Minnesota the legal limit is 50% (basically nothing).

Everyone I went to (everyone within 100 miles of the twin cities) would do 35% and one shop said they'd do 30%, but nobody would go lower.

In a way I'm happy because at night when I'm out where its really dark (in the country where I live), I can barely see out the windows while backing up.

However, they are noticeably different that the rears, but not so much that it looks bad in my opinion. I didn't want something where the cops can't see my outline through the front windows or I'd probably get pulled over.

The tint shops said if I tinted the rear windows and the back window with 20% then the fronts would be a lot darker. I thought about it, but it wasn't worth the $120 to me so I've held off.

Im in Greensboro NC and can name 3 shops in town that will do whatever you want. One will even give a waranty on 20% on the front sides. I had a local shop inspect it but I had to talk with the owner to get them to do it. I've been stoped twice, I just roll down both front windows and have not had any problems. Check out my gallery and see if 20% is what u want.

Yeah, I had the same exact problem, and since I can't do it myself and don't "know" anyone who works/owns/does tinting, I gave in and went 35% on top of existing so the end result looked similar as far as mirroring etc, however yes, the back is darker than the front, but it's all I could do, and I had to have it tinted. The problem is the tint shops are being held responsible for putting on the illegal tint, at least around here, and of course the punk a$$ highschoolers are telling the cops who installed the tint instead of just fixing the problem and not getting people in trouble, thus why they stopped installing illegal tint on the front windows around here.

Looks great Brad!

My ride's the same color but a Screw.

Can you PM me the shop's details please. I'm willing to drive out of state if that's what it takes. I don't want to, but will. I'm still hoping someone in my area will come thru, but if not then I'll definitely hunt your sources down.

Before Georgia threw out the tint restriction laws, a lot of shops in town would tint them as dark as you wanted, so long as you signed a waiver saying that they told you sub 30% is illegal, and that they're not responsible for any trouble you have with the law. I know that doesn't help you in VA, but just a thought.

They look almost identical to the Kaizer Sphinx I was thinking about getting. How much were yours, if you don't mind me asking?

I did mine myself, and I have had 35% on a vehicle before and I didn't like it at all. 20% or less is the only way to go.

And 00 offroad.........Greensboro eh?? Yeah, I work there everyday! You don't ever cruise down Wendover by the Benz dealer do you because I have never seen your truck! You got that damage fixed yet?

Grub, why don't you just do it yourself? It's not hard. I used to do it allot and all it takes is a little time and you can get the results YOU want. Just find some place here in VA or on the net that sells the film tint you want. Good luck man.
