You're killing me, HID.

You waltz in here with your short little skirt and your perfume, and you give us just the one pic?!?!? C'mon, bro! Don't tease!!

Huh? Whatever...didn't really care anyway if it's that expensive. Just trying to be sociable. I get tired of people using that "in the business" "holier than thou" attitude.

Whoa slow down. I didnt mean it to sound like a slap in the face.
All im sayting is that the projectors units go for anywhere above $500 on eBay. The ballasts bulbs and mount etc "Retail" cost about $400 or so. My reply meant that I have all these pieces of hardware readily available so it s hard to cost it because I pay for hundreds at a time and not individually.
Sorry for the confusion.
This truck represents the business as well so mods like this are very important to the company as well as a business write off.

I see. I guess I was just trying to get a ballpark estimate of the total cost that the average Joe, like myself, would have to pay for the parts. By no means was I asking what you paid, having the inside track. I can understand that that information is proprietary.

Well one can always go to eBay or otherplace to find used parts for cheaper.
F150Duke and a few others here have completed, or are working on HID retrofits themselves. The hardest part is to find a projector that will fit the look of the truck. Even these monster Q45 projectors get amazingly dwarfed with the size of the headlight assembly and grill.
YOu could find used HID parts for sale cheap...this is what some people do while others like the satisfaction of buying new parts from a company that will back its products.

haha, you finally finished the beast HIDPlanet!!! My congrats to your lucky **** for being able to write it off too. I unfortunately won't be so lucky.

Ok guys, to anyone interested in this, you better have deep pockets because it's crazy expensive. Below is a list of what it cost me for my HID retrofit, and I got really good deals by shopping around.

It also takes a lot of time! I started this project in June and will have the final install done in about a month.

Mine will be LS430 projectors that have a bi-xeon and color mod to them. HIDPlanet's projectors are off a Infiniti Q45 and are only single xeon and not as great output as possible with HID projectors, they are a more "for looks" type projector. They look awesome!!!!!!

My LS430s will be the widest HID beam pattern there is on the market. The headlights will remain chrome just like stock.

Costs (not what I paid but what they would cost you unless you get really lucky, like I did):
Wiring Harness: $50
LS430 projectors: $400
Denso ballasts: $195
Phillips bulbs: $65

What I paid:
New headlights: $149
LS430 projectors, phillips bulbs, denso ballasts: $600
Wiring Harness: $50
Mod to LS430 projectors to make bi-xeon and color mod: $300
Install labor: $200

It's costly, but it will look oh so good when it's done. Congrats again to HIDPlanet for his success on finishing and hopefully I'll have something to post here soon.

Some people think its utterly outragous to spend this kind of money on lighting, but if forward lighting is important to you and you want the absolute best in output and beam pattern, its the way to go.
If you have ever driven or driven inside a OEM vehicle with HID, you will notice how much light is on the road. Alot of people view HIDs from the outside and want that colorful look out of their headlights and go buy a rebased Kit, but then soon realize that its all look and poor performance. This is why people retrofit, so they get the best of both worlds...looks and absolute best performance.

HIDPLANET..

Great looking retro.. I was thinking about using the Q45 lights in my truck but I don't want to loss my high beam option. I am still in the planning stages of my retro..

F150 Duke...

I am looking foward to see what you have in the works... Always nice to have a few installs to look at and get some ideas in what to do..

I know how hard and expensive it is to do this kind of mod.. I did a HID projector retro to my Honda CBR 2 winters ago.. It was the hardest mod I ever tried to do and almost gave up on it 10 times. All I knwo it came out great and the light out put was second to none..

So hats off to both of you for your hard work and time put into your projects.

I'm one of those happy where I am. I have the regualr headlights and fog lights, and I can see for 11+ seconds at 80 mph. Definitely like the look though doh, editting 11+ seconds is on high beams

As for high beams, I plan to use auxillary lighting in the grill. I actually purchased a 2005 Mustag GT grill and want the same look on the truck. They are a little smaller than I thought si I may have to mount Hella aux lights to make it look the way I want it. I was inspired by the Roush F150 for the grill lights.

HID thats a nice looking set up. I will love to see the lights turned on. Post up pics when it is all done. I have been contemplating modding my lights but the cost has been an issue. I will have to see all the options and make a decision.
