If you want a modded engine why would you care about noise????

The AF1 is only somewhat noisy over 2000 RPM. Because I have the TP Stage 2 Kit I really don't have to stomp on it because the torque will pull you through most situations. (At least in Dallas which is relatively flat.)

I guess if you live in the hill country you would have issues with noise. I know that I can go torque locked at 42MPH and pull most Dallas "hills" without going over 2000 RPM. If I lived in my native state, "PA", I would probably hear the noise more often, but once again; do you want a truck that performs with some noise or the stock configuration?

I didn't see what other mods you have so maybe posting those could help. I definately would NOT recommend the AF1 as the 1st mod, I would go with the TP XCAL2 tunes.... Way more Bank, er Bang for the buck!!!!!!

JP,
While driving without towing my experience was the same as yours.

Crash,
Don't get your shorts in knot. You don't tell me how to mod my truck and I won't tell you how to mod yours. OK?

kd4crs,

I wasn't expressing an opinion to you, the question was asked by fujio001. I could care a less how you mod your truck. OK?

Fujio001,

The AF1 does make more noise than the stock air intake especially above 2000rpm. Up until that point you will not notice it. I notice that some people don't hear it but it is definately noticeable to me at higher rpms, but I expected more noise since it is a open filter design. So you really need to take it for what it is, which is an open filter design.

I towed my travel trailer to Florida from Chicago and the noise was almost unbearable. I don't have a tach, but at 65 mph the harmonic resonance was peircing. My wife had to wear earplugs just to get through it. I contacted Troyer and they had a rep from AF1 call me the next day. He was not familiar with the complaint I had. He said they will look into it. Anyone with the same problem as me should let AF1 know so they have an idea how many people are dissatisfied

Not trying to start anything here......I've had several cold air intakes from K&N to Airaid and have absolutely loved every one of them. I guess each one has it's own positives and negatives. All I can say is that if you are complaining about the noise level from any of these intakes, then you need to put that big awkward hunk of plastic that came from the factory back into your truck.....that's what it's purpose was for...to act as a muffler for air intake noise. Just like in an exhaust muffler from the factory...it may be quieter, but it is more restrictive which equalls a little less power.

The blue or red color is just a dye mixed in the oil so you can see it when you re-oil the filter. It still works the way it should even after it fades.

20. How do I know when to clean the filter?

The general rule of thumb is that the filter needs to be cleaned when the dirt build up gets as thick as the wire mesh. The usual interval is 30,000 - 50,000 miles depending on driving conditions. We recommend that you check your filter about once a year in normal usage.

The only thing Im worried about is that I go offroad a lot. Stock, K&N, AirRaid or maybe Volant? I've got a K&N drop in right now. Im thinking the best intake for me would be either stock or the Volant? What do you think?

Yeah the Filter Wraps are nice when all you do is offroad in sand but thats not the case with me. I really don't think they're going to stop any water.
