Thumbs up Ebay "cheap" fender flares review.

here's the link.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...QQcmdZViewItem

We'll i recieved mine yesterday.. boxed nice, labeled, (FR,FL...etc) on each flare, hardware as well. First look, i was like damn these are nice!.. Pulled them out.. and sure enough.. they were!.. I also purchased the one's off ebay that were for an fx4, but the needed to have holes drilled in the fender, so now they just sit in the garage, cause i ait drillin no holes in my new rig.. so back to these others.. compared to the fx4 stock, these are much more heavier.. thicker too. These come in black, and they had them all shined up.. they looked pretty... Hardware included were just screws.. the way it looks, is the underside of the flare screws into that little lip under the fenderwell. then you pull the 3m tape off the edge and stick it to the fender. In my opinion, .. do they look worth the bill i spent,, Yes... much cheaper than the 425 at the stearler. Will they do the job and keep that edge nice!.. yes... will they look sick when i have them sprayed with line-x.. yes..

hope this helps..

chris

i don thave them on yet.. sorry.. i'll get pics soon...

You say they are thicker, but are they as wide/tall as the OEM? I'm about to order some myself, assuming they are exactly the same size as the OEM. Thanks.

when i put them up to the truck.. .. you know how the new fords have flat edge on those fenders, i think stock covers that whole flat peice, and these are about 1/2 inch shorter . so you see a small edge of that flat space... that make since ??? :o

they look good to me... .. worth the 100 bucks.. vs 400.. IMO

Bought the same ones back in March, I painted them myself to match the 2 tone paint that I have. I've seen better quality but a much higher price. The 3M tape is starting to loosen up on the fender edges now and I may take them off so water and snow won't collect in them. May just order some from the dealer and have them put them on so if any goes wrong down the road they can fix it!

Crstfr, I order the same thing like yours, but it doesn't come with a instructions. I email the seller but no response yet. I can,t wait to put em on. How do you install it? Screw in the bottom first then peel off the tape or vice versa. Is the screw self drilling or you need to drill hole first?

Thanks

Glad they worked out for you, they are a great price also. I used the factory FX4 flares, but did not drill for the top push pins, only for the bottom. They fit nice and tight.

So how did you fasten the sides on if you didn't drill on the side? Let me know because I've had FX4 flares for 8 months now sitting in my shed because I'm afraid to drill into my fenders. There's too much room for error.

I did not attach the top edges. The are so rigid and fitted well enough to not need it. Also when you drill, make sure to keep the bottom lip of the flare as tight as possible. This makes the top edge sit even tighter against the truck. If you do not fell comfortable, I would go with the eBay flares

Those 3M tape is not going to hold them long....I removed my FX4 OEM flares and bought aftermarket wide and taller flares (painted) for my rig and after 4 mos. the front edge was coming apart. This is due to body flex, going over uneven road. This is primary reason why OEM's have holes to mount them, which gives as you flex truck's body over uneven roads.

I also have the ebay OEM FX4 flares that's sitting in my garage for i don't know how long, because i dont want to drill. That's why i order this aftermarket flare in ebay that i thought comes with fastener or mounting clip, but it comes with a screw also (means drilling) and no instructions.
Now i have 2 sets of fender flare sitting in here waiting to be installed. . Wish me luck.

Bought those on E bay for my XLT, spent about $80 more to get paint mixed to match my lower accent color and now on some of them the 3m tape is coming loose! I prepped everything very well b4 installing but now they are coming loose.

From: San Diego Ca,
I called the dealer, they want $180 to install the FX4 flare including drilling and whatever comes with it. They said just take it in and it will only takes 2 hours. I think i'm going to go on this route and just bite the bullet, that way whatever happen in the future thay can take care of it. Like wasachevyguy said, there's so much room for error if i did it myself. Also if i want to upgrade to a lariat flare, i already have a predrilled hole on it. I just cant stand having 2 fender flare sitting here. I'll post a pix when it's done. Anybody want the ebay flare for cheap

I bought and installed the ebay "OEM Style" fender flares and I regret it. These things are junk! The do not fit properly, the 3m tape does not stick and the finish makes them look cheap. All of my friends said they looked bad so finally I took them off because I agreed! I replaced them with the polished stainless trim. I have learned a lesson here and that is to either spend the money for the factory parts or save money and get the polished stainless trim. Oh well it looks nice now!

I put the OEM FX4 wheel lip moldings on myself and believe me if I new then what I know now it would have been well worth $180 to have it done. Mine came out looking as good as most of the ones I've seen but it took me 5 or 6 hours to put them on. A couple of little mistakes on the 1st one made me sweat bullets over the other 3.

Any updates from you ebay flare owners? How are they holding up? Anyone not have problems with the tape? I'm trying my best to find a set of oem FX flares, but these things are incredibly hard to come by...so I'm considering the easy to get ebay flares. Deep down I think it's better to hold out for the FX flares rather than spend $140 on the ebays and end up still wanting the FX's.
