Trans Fault

'05 F150 w/5.4 and the 4r75E, 3,000miles.

I roll out of my driveway Friday night and 4,000rpm gets me up to about 10mph. Something is obviously slipping, TRANS FAULT shows up on the message center and my O/D light is flashing.

Yesterday dealer tells me that the codes indicate an electrical problem but they are still investigating.

Today he calls to tell me that a solenoid is shorting, maybe because the transmission fluid is full of metal shavings. With my mileage he doesn't think a rebuild is fair, so he has a new tranny on the way.

Don't know any more details yet but a friend of a friend is a mechanic there so I should be able to get any info I need.

a friend of mine with a 04 fx4 5.4L had the same thing happen to him. It was just a new sensor that had to replaced on the tranny.. in and out surgery.. good luck..

Solenoids don't "short" because the pan is full of metal. Something inside the transmission blowed up to scatter metal shavings around.
