Wandell: Where did you get that notion?

In a 10/17/05 post about aftermarket wheels, you said, "There is also the problem with fitment of 17's after Ford went to larger brake calipers during the 05 model year."
My '06 FX4 SCAB came stock with 18" wheels and I'm considering replacing them with 17" aftermarket wheels.
ARE YOU SAYING THAT THE 17-INCHERS WON'T FIT DUE TO LARGER BRAKE CALIPERS?

it is only certain rims that wont fit not all 17's. all good wheel dealers will check with the manufacturer to check if the wheels will fit your truck.

The Helo Maxx wont fit in a 17" or smaller. Havn't really heard of any other. The way I understand it that particular wheel has a thicker lip around the inside and it wont clear the caliper. Wandell is the "tire guy" on this site, dont doubt him.

Right, if you want 17's, be sure to check with the wheel manufacturer and then test fit one before mounting tires on them. Also, I first heard about the change in brake calipers and problems with 17's in this forum.

Thanks for shedding some light you guys.
Seems to be a frustrating process for many, myself included.
Find a desirable wheel design...not wide enough for big tires.
Find a design that comes 8" or wider...offset is all wrong.
Find a design, 8" and wider, offset OK...backspacing won't work with 4" lift.
Find a design, 8" and wider, offset and backspacing OK...wheels on backorder.
Checking with wheel manufacturer and test mounting seem to be very prudent steps to take.
