Reverse Sensing System Problem

Just curious to know if any of you have had issues with your reverse sensing systems working properly. After almost backing into the neighbors mailbox this morning I realized that mine didn't go off. But when I got to work and backed into my space the parking curb set it off. Didn't make much sense, but I haven't really looked closely at it yet.

Keep the sensors clean. That seemed to help with the confusion.

Exactly if something is on it it will cause it to not work right.
Mine has been flawless and i love my system.

Steam from my dual exhaust will set them off when the truck is first started and put in reverse. Also ice makes them go crazy.

I got back there yesterday and was able to set off each of the 4 sensors individually, they seemed to work fine. The mailbox I was back up to was a bricked in style, pretty sizeable, maybe 2'X2' square. But I was backing up to it at one of the corners leaving a 30 degree angle on either side of the mailbox. I know very little about these kinds of things, but would the angles have an effect on the system "seeing" the object? I did the exact same thing this morning and it didn't set it off again. I back out the same way everyday and I could swear that the last two mornings were the first time the system has not gone off, but hell, I don't know???

Ford's park aid systems nowadays are pretty picky. The sensors must be kept clean, and as others have said, snow, fog, and frost can have a weird affect on them. The general operating range of the rear park aid is 6' aft of the bumper, and 18" on either side of the bumper, with a continous tone when you're 10" or closer to whatever or whoever you're about to run over.

I actually had something very similar happen in our Explorer. As I was pulling out of a tight parking space, I noticed that the sensor was not working. Put her back in park and then back in reverse and it worked again. Apparently our service guy says that things like that happen more frequently than they care to admit.

Damn, now the neighbors have gone and laid some stealth brick. They are out to get me and my beautiful 1-fiddy. I'm going to let my lab go after their 5 lb barking rat next time I see it.

Hell, I guess I'll just have to start paying attention when I'm going backwards now. Seems like a lot of wasted brain power, that's why I got that feature in the first place!

Probably dirty or covered with frost, like others have already said.
