Cause for blown engine - bad injector - Ford warranty

Well I just got back from the dealer regarding my Roush supercharged F150 with the blown motor. Apparently, it had nothing to do with the supercharger. The cause was a bad #3 injector that hung open, filled the cylinder with fuel and caused what they termed 'hydro-lock', where the cylinder is full of fluid and the piston rod tries to push the piston up, but can't due to it being full of liquid, then the piston rod bends. He showed me the bent rod and scratched cylinder wall. Pretty wild. The good news is that they are going to try to push this thru the Ford warranty, instead of the Roush warranty. The Roush warranty has a cap on dollars and does not cover the rental car. So hopefully everything will work out and I'll get my truck back in a week or two.

Hey Tun2One, good to hear buddy. I knew deep down it wouldn't be Roush's problem, at least I felt I knew deep down, because my experience with Roush and their S/C setups and tunes just goes to show you they make great power very safely. I really was kind of suspecting it had something to do with fuel delivery in one way or another, never thought of this though, what happened that is. This is exactly why I personally would pay a mechanic to install my S/C if I got one because a few hundred dollars for the install is well worth it if something like this happens while the truck is still under warranty because unfortunately, this could happen to anyone, no matter who installed it. A piece of mind goes a long way...good things will come and your truck will be back with the Eaton whine before you know it.

I had an injector hang open on me once on the interstate. I had the cruise set at about 75 for a hour and a half, and when I slowed down for a rest stop the truck drove really rough and wanted to stall. I got it going back up to 75 where it ran smooth again. I hit the next exit, same thing again. Pulled into a ford dealership in the middle of nowhere. Waited 7 hours for a new injectors to arrive, then back on my way. TSB for the problem said repalce injector and all 8 spark plugs. The truck had about 3500 miles on it.

Didn't bend a rod. The supercharger probably was enough to bend it.

I think the engine probably could have been saved if I drove it straight to the dealer and they didn't try to start it. I believe the injector failure caused fuel to be dumped into the cylinder after I turned the motor off, and the starter caused the rod to bend. The s/c never came into play at that point.
What TSB are you referring to?

The rental (Taurus) is currently having a supercharger installed. Smoke videos to follow.

I don't have the number. When I came into that dealer, the plugged it into the computer and checked the code. Then they searched their computer and they said they found a TSB relating to the code, which was stuck injectors. They said they would have just changed just one spark plug, but they found the TSB that ford says to change all 8 and the 1 bad injector.

Are they going to replace the motor?

If the replace the motor you are going to get a rebuilt engine, the dealer may tell you that it is a new one but that will not be the case under the Ford warranty.

Good news is now your S/C will now be dealer installed.

Good luck with the repair.

Do you still have the paper work for this? This was on your 2005 right? Any help would be greatful. I probably won't need it, but this info sounds like the indisputable 'smoking gun'.

Anybody else heard of this TSB?

Im looking at my paperwork right now, the code the truck gave off was p1075. They have listed that they fixed it acording to the TSB, but dont list the number. Yes, it was on my 05 fx4 5.4L, with build date of 3/05.
The dealers name was JOE HOTZE FORD. WWW.HOTZEFORD.COM, 1800-562-2014. Maybe they can help you find the tsb. When I came in they said they had only one other truck with the same thing come in, which was an expedition. Hope this helps.

Great info, thanks. Do you have the date it was done and the advisor's name? I'll give them a call.

Also - are you sure it's P1075? My alldata account doesn't show that specific code..
