Question Keyless entry pad illumination

I intentionally left the keys in my truck one afternoon while hunting to keep from losing them (and to test the pad, since I hadn't used it yet). When I got back to the truck after dark, I pulled the door handle to illuminate the interior (and hopefully the keypad) to punch in the code........... that's when I found out the interior no longer illuminates when you try the handle.. doesn't do anything for the keypad either. My '97 lit up the interior and cargo light when you pulled the handle.

I finally dug the flashlight out so I could see the pad, which illuminated after punching the first button.

I assume that if I were to randomly punch a button that wasn't the correct one, I would have to wait the 10 seconds for it to clear out before I could resume the code.. which I suspect will also turn the keypad dark once again.

Any way to make the pad illuminate without hitting a random key?

Maybe my interior and pad is supposed to be illuminating after lifting the handle and it's just not.. guess that's a possibility also.

Thanks in advance.

You don't have to wait 10 seconds. Just punch in a number and it should be fine to start your code... or count buttons til you get to your first one.

So the first keystroke on the pad does nothing then, per your post.

I had never used the pad and honestly not paid a whole lot of attention to it until then.. forgive me for not being familiar with the numbering sequence on the keys and the need for a light.

I thought the question was fairly straightforward.. try to follow along.. but yes, I can count to five and you can keep the rest of your useless comments to yourself teach, thanks.

If that doesnt work, you can feel the keypad to find out what is what without turning it on. I've done that manytimes....just feel the pad and get used to it.

Push the last two buttons at the same time, which locks the vehicle.

I know it's already locked.......Duh!

The pad will light up for you doing this, without messing up the code sequence.

Add a small flashlight to your key chain.

Your other keychain, where you have your house keys.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys. That's the kind of thing I was looking for. I wonder why they got rid of the functionality of lifting the door handle to make everything illuminate?

Maybe it was assumed that evil-doers were looking for stuff to steal?
